EDIT: Of course as soon as I post this, finally someone in Vortex replies with some useful info. Everyone's input here would still be appreciated.
So, once again I posted a situation in VwVortex, just to be let down by a bunch of views, but only 1 reply. So once again I come to you. Figured posting in the S4 forums would be acceptable since i drive a B5S4. Anyways on to the problem.

A few weeks ago my girlfriend started her car and the idle was very rough. She panicked and turned it off and called me. I figured it was just because it was below 30 here and just told her to let it warm up. She started it again and let it warm up, everything worked perfectly.

Yesterday her car started to idle oddly at a stop light, once again she freaked out and pulled over and gave me a call. I told her to try to start it again and if everything sounds normal to go ahead and drive it. She did and everything went fine, until later that night. On her way to my house she had more issues, this time the idle was surging as if it had a vacuum leak, i drove down to her and checked everything out. No leaks that i could see. However this time the EPC light was on along with the check engine light. I ran the codes and received P0121 and P0638, both of which are related to the Throttle position sensor and throttle body. Went to autozone and they have told me the TPS is actually integrated with the throttle body. Is this true?

Later that night on her way home, her car went into limp mode. It is now parked at her appt where it will stay until i figure out what is wrong.

Anyways, I can only assume everything here points to a failed throttle body. Im considering going to a pick n pull and taking one off there to at least confirm if that is the case. Do I have to replace the throttle body or is there a way to reprogram it since it is electronic? What would be the smartest route of going about this fix?

That EPC light will effectively disable a car FAST.

My GF had a jetta once. Same thing happened. I put in a DBW throttle I had sitting around off a passat and it cleared it up right away. However, the throttle did not have a vacuum port on the top, so I drilled a hole through it and put the vacuum line in it. Ghetto fix, but it worked.

BTW, the TPS is integrated into the throttle. You shouldnt have to reprogram anything. Just put a different one in there, turn the key on for 1 minute, and it should work thereafter.

I swapped my TB without re calibrating and it was fine, actually a little faster until the car figured out what was up and adjusted, lol.

I've seen a few vwvortex threads when googling b5s4 stuff, almost as bad as a Subaru or Toyota forum.
the B5 S4 is like the mafia... there is only one way out!
