Suspension Noise - Rear Shock Bushing TSB

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a 2016 model S3 with MRC and I'm having a loud "pop" sound coming from the Suspension and have it at the dealership now. There is a TSB out for the MRC equipped cars to replace the rear shock bushing. I swear it's coming from the front. Regardless the dealership has replaced the RSB parts on both sides and still hear the sound.

I've read mainly on the FB page for our model cars that some folks dealerships have replaced the shocks as well.

    Anyone here either

    A. Have the same issue
    B. The RSB's solved your issue
    C. Had the rear shocks replaced as well?

I was having a knocking noise coming from the back of the car and the dealership ended up not securely replacing the suspension cover on the shock when they took out the suspension blocks for transport. It was something so stupid and simple which was causing them so much confusion.

My car has a loud banging noise coming from the back when hitting small bumps on the road. Feels like something heavy tumbling in the trunk, but it's completely empty. Is it something similar you're hearing?

I swear mine is coming from the front, but similar sounds. On FB people have been stating that their dealerships ending up replacing the entire rear shocks and whatever controls the MRC function within the shocks was malfunctioning. What's interesting is that when I put the car in Dynamic, it definitely knocks down the sound, it doesn't go away, but is substantially reduced. I conveyed all of that to the dealer.

I have the 034 dogbone insert and they were trying to claim that was it. I called BS right away. This is the same dealer that said it would be "YEAR" to get the original RSB's related to the TSB. I called Audi NA HQ - 4 days later parts were in.

It gets better - I also have EBC yellow stuff pads still on the front of the car. Was too lazy to pull them back off after my last track event. They want the OEM's to put back on, because they think the pads might be knocking around in the caliper. I laughed and said sure go for it.

You need to find a new dealership. I wouldn't trust those guys.

I wish I could switch out, but we're talking a decent distance to the next closest.

Well I might be eating crow. To my complete shock, the dealership called at lunch and said returning the front pads to stock took out the remaining noise. I'll pickup tonight or tomorrow and will confirm. Keep in mind they did do the RSB's already, but did report still hearing the noise. If they are correct, this will be first time ever that aftermarket pads have caused an issue. Now I have had pads move fore and aft, but not up and down which is what would be occurring in this instance.

    For the track.

And yes Crow tastes crappy. I picked the car up last night and haven't heard the noise once. I got to spend some time with the tech who diagnosed it and if I can get him on my car any time I bring it in, I will feel pretty good with him. I honestly thought they were crazy, but I was right that I heard the noise in the front and sure enough it was there just the wrong reason.

Mute point anyway, i'm putting on a new Stoptech 6 pot Trophy kit this weekend. They are sweet as hell.

EGAD! After reading this thread, I may be experiencing the same issue. With the vehicle set to Dynamic and going over some pot holes I'm hearing some popping/banging sounds from the rear - louder than I would expect to hear. Its akin to having the suspension bottoming out. I'll have to test in Comfort mode - usually take the same route in the mornings and try to recreate the issue.

Sheesh another visit to the dealer may be in order.

False alarm, it appeared to be the cargo floor cover banging :) I'm surprised it's not secured AT ALL, just laying there.
