    :: ECS Tuning :: GEOMET® Coated Brake Rotors | Audi B8/B8.5 S5

    ECS Tuning proudly introduces our line of premium, corrosion-resistant rotors: GEOMET®.

    GEOMET® is a special coating containing metal oxides, zinc, and aluminum flakes, sprayed over the entire rotor surface to ensure complete coverage, and baked on at 600 degrees to form a durable and attractive silver-gray finish that fights rust far better than paints or other conventional coatings.

    You can expect your new GEOMET® rotors to outperform and outlast stock rotors, and look great behind your alloy wheels.

    Do the 2 piece rotors have GEOMET on them already? Or is that something you guys are working on?

    They do not. The rotor hats are hard anodized and the rings are painted inside and out with high temp black paint to resist salt and other corrosives.

    Speaking of the two piece ones. I can't tell if mine are corroded on the hat part or need to be scrubbed. I wash my wheels weekly so dirt never stays on the rotors long. They are pretty sweet rotors though. Not a big deal I'll touch them up in spring once I put my new wheels on. Probably brush method?

    Looks like dried salt. Obviously as the rotors heat up any water that has road salt in it will evaporate on contact and since salt cant evaporate it leaves a deposit.

    Some wheel cleaner or a thorough rinse with a pressure washer should remove those deposits.

    Exactly what I'm thinking. Hard to get in there good with the wheel on. Ill clean em good come spring. Northeast winter weather stinks.

    For sure! They'll come back to life and look fresh once all the road salt is washed off the roads. I would suggest a plastic bristle brush or even a foam brush when cleaning them as it wont mark up the rotor hats.

    I've a question on the GEOMET claims against corrosion and longer life.

    Is this only valid until the first application of the brakes at which point any 'surface' finish will be removed?

    The braking surface will never retain a coating as it gets worn away by the pads. But the edges of the rotor, inside of the rotor, and rotor hub all would be exposed steel which will rust if not coated. This is what the GEOMET protects.

    The braking surface never rusts (except for the occasional surface rust during a wash/rain which gets wiped away the first time you hit the brakes).
