    B5 a4 rwd conversion questions

So I'm trying to gather all the information I can for RWD conversion. I've searched for a while for the information I'm looking for, and although many have done this, I haven't seen any in-depth how to's or Q&A's. My questions are:

    1. Are 01A and 01V quattro transmission center differentials the same part number/interchangeable? I'm trying to source a spare center diff in case anything goes wrong and I need to swap back and I'm finding more auto trans "cores" than manual so interchangeability would be very beneficial.

    2. I've read that most complain about breaking rear cv shafts after the swap either from the extra load a combination of extra load and old age. Are the FWD CV shafts compatible with the rear diff and are they a stronger option?

I appreciate the help if anyone can offer it. If these questions have been answered in a thread I'm not seeing, I apologize and please send me the link. Also I can really do without the "quattro > rwd" nonsense, it's my car, I do what I want.

    1. Pretty sure they are very different.

    2. FWD axles are the same as quattro axles, more or less. They will not bolt up in the rear

    1. No, they are not interchangable at all. the 01V diff will not physically fit in place of a 01A/01E center diff. although once welded they do accomplish the same task.

    2. No. the axles are different lengths and CV's may or may not be different also.

no quattro > rwd nonsense here, im all for it
