    2009 A6 3.0T Navigation and traffic App?

    Hi All,

I recently purchased an A6 and am delighted with it.

In time I may look at the stage 2 pulley, and the obd tune, but these are all low priority at the moment.

In my last vehicle, I had a stand alone GPS from Garmin, it was obviously not as neat as the factory GPS however, the thing I find myself missing most is the live traffic.

It's not so much the automatic rerouting I miss, more the heads up about congestion, meaning I had time to get off the highway before becoming stuck.

My phone is an iPhone, and I am just wondering if people have found a work around with this.

    Thanks in advance.

I'll wait for somebody more knowledgable to chime in, but I'm in the same boat with my 09 A6. There are map updates and MMI software updates available for the car, but it's still got MMI 2G, where as the '10, '11 and on are MMI 3G. I don't think MMI 2G is capable of traffic but I could be wrong.

You can get live traffic on your nav through Sirius, and since you just purchased the vehicle you also should have a free 3 month trial (at least that's been my experience on my last two cars). Granted, the maps aren't totally up to date but that can be remedied as well

Yeah, when I first bought my C6 I read up a lot on MMI versions/software upgrades etc.. and I believe that the 3G MMI was traffic capable but not the 2G. Like you said Kbruce you may be able to do it through Sirius.

    Hi both,

    I really appreciate the feedback.

I took a look at Sirius, I'm already subscribed to their music service but it appears that the vehicle is not supported, presumably because of the 2G service as you mentioned.

Its not the biggest issue in the world but a little frustrating.

    Thanks again for your help.

I have an '07 A6 Avant w/Navigation & Sirius. Sirius traffic is useful if you're near the major metro areas it cover but otherwise useless. There are a multitude of mapping programs available for you iPhone. Google Maps includes traffic & re-routing support. WAZE has good mapping software with up to date traffic conditions as well. It's also updated continually by users with warnings of Police Radar, vehicles on side of road, even roadkill!Google maps has the more attractive interface with satellite view of areas you're driving through showing lakes, golf clibs etc.
If I'm in a real hurry I use WAZE and turn on Alerts feature & mute directions. This way the phone isn'y yacking at you continously. YMMV

    Hi Stuffinder,

Thanks so much for your input.

How is the Sirius working on your model, over the air or integrated with MMI.

I have waze and google, and as you suggest they do the job, I was just hoping I could have found a more integrated method.

    Thanks again!
