I had this problem for quite some time, only burning oil when the car was at a complete idle puffing a lot of smoke when you would hit the gas again. I tired so many different things to fix it with no change at all. I upgraded to a new K04 turbo no fix, new pcv valve, checked all block breather lines, new suction jet. In the mean time of this I popped the head gasket on it so i decided to just swap in an extra complete 1.8t that i had, different block and head thought this would have to fix it. nope still burnt oil only at idle.
The motor swap:
This point I knew it wasnt the motor itself. I went through and deleted almost all of the emissions system, suction jet pump system, ran the block vent line to the intake manifold, the tubing also connected to that which ran around the back of the motor to the hockey puck I vented to the open with a small vent filter inturn removing the hockey puck and blocking that hole off. removed most of the check valves. Deleted the Egr valve. Then was able to disable to the two solenoids under bolted on the bottom of the intake manifold, The N249, and EGR solenoid. Deleted the secondary air pump, but still nothing fixed it!
I started looking through all the system readings through my scanner, checked the vacuum pressure, everything checked out normal. I started goin through in my mind the systems I had left on it and where the oil could possibly be coming from. I decided to take a swing in the dark, I took the line for the block vent system, the one from the pcv valve to the intake manifold and installed an air compressor air filter that i took the filter part of it out in the middle of that line. An oil catch can of sorts. I reconnected it all back up and drove it around for a couple days, no smoke. The filter housing is clear so I was able to check it after a couple days and sure enough there was a decent amount of oil in it. Since I installed that, as long as I check it every few weeks to make sure it isnt full, I have yet to have that problem anymore.
In order to do it in the way I have you will have to delete the suction jet pump system. This thread is a good one for deleting it along with other emission type system if you were interested as well: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...Simplification
This is Pcv/ block breather system and what I did:
