RNS-E navigation dvd upgrade to 2016

Has anyone tried to upgrade their 2006 RNS-E units to use the 2016 maps? I saw this for sale on Ebay but I'm a little confused why there would be two DVD's and not the traditional single disc.

I can't comment on the dual disks but I ordered the 2015 DVD from that guy and it was a burned copy of the 2012 DVD with the 2015 label on it. I asked him about it and he gave me a refund and never even answered the question.

I think I bought one from the same guy. It won't upgrade, even though supposedly I currently have 2007-2008 installed so even if it was 2012 then it should upgrade but it didn't. I'm in the process of requesting a refund. I might take a risk on the 2016 one and see how it turns out. I guess I could contact my local Audi dealer and ask them how many discs the 2016 update should have and whether it works for the 2006 RNS-E.

The latest genuine Audi map DVDs will work in any RNS-E from 2004 onwards, both Mk1's and Mk2's (post 2010).

Don't know if the 2016 US DVD is a 2-DVD set, but the EU DVD maps have always been at least a 2 DVD set and changed to a 3 DVD set in 2015 - you just use the appropriate disc for the region of Europe (yes they do overlap).

So I decided to upgrade to the latest 2-dics map update from audinav.com and here are some details so far.

Purchased on 2/11 and arrived 2/22, shipped from Spain. The two disc's that arrived do not appear to OEM; that is, the label seems to be non genuine audi. Not sure if that's expected but was a surprise to me. In addition, the disc's do not come in the usual audi hardcover case, but rather come in two cd sleeves with no additional packaging info.

Previous installed map:
2010/2011 North American map
SW ver: 0200
HW: H04
Map ver: 8P0919884_AS_NAR

New map:
2015/2016 North American map
SW: 0230
HW: H04
Map ver: 8P0060884_CF_NAR

Disc 1 is the software upgrade and Disc 2 contains the map data - so once installed you'll need to keep disc 2 inserted.

Since I just received the disc's, I haven't had a chance to navigate around. Mapping out local and long distance routes seems to take the same amount of time - so that's good.

I'll report back once I've had some time to see what it can/can't do compared to previous version.

I recently changed my headunit to Pioneer NEX 4100..
best move I made...
Everything is intergraded threw the phone..
So your nav is always up to date..
so much ore music source options, camera, ect ect..
It has made the car feel way more up to date...

Haha honestly I wonder if this guy is running this business just by burning an ISO he found off TPB onto a double layer DVD. That's like, 6,000% profit on each DVD (or something like that, was never good at math).

I can't believe Audi charges almost $300 for these. That's like... insane.

When I upgraded to the iPhone 6 -- bluetooth stopped working on it - it doesn't find the Audi-UHV or whatever it was in the list of Bluetooth devices on the iPhone. It just doesn't show up. I have the 2010+ RNS-E but I only have the 2014 maps. (I just acquired the 2016 maps and no, I didn't get it from this guy haha). Did you or anyone for that matter ever have an issue with bluetooth and iPhone 6? And if so, did upgrading to the 2016 maps fix it? I am going to burn my DL DVD tonight and try it, but was just curious if this is the reason why, given that there is in fact a firmware update.

I'll need to test that piece... although I'm wondering if the firmware upgrade affects the BT module or is limited to the navigation piece only. Either case I have an iphone 5 and nexus 6 (android) and haven't had any connectivity issues with either when i was on the 2010/11 firmware - but I'll test connectivity to both and let you know if i experience any issues.

I'm in NY so your more than welcome to test connectivity to my RNS-E if you ever need to!

The BT module is a separate module, the RNS-E firmware update only changes the firmware in the RNS-E and has no effect on the BT module.

I have an iPhone 6+ which connects via BT with no problems at all.

FWIW, I also just recently purchased the 2016 2-disc set from http://www.audinav.com/ for my RNS-E and everything went smoothly. Shipping was relatively quick, software install went smooth, Nav DVD seems to be working like the OEM disc as well.

260 is the latest firmware version for the 1st-gen RNS-E. what were you expecting?

Isn’t SW 650, the Euro firmware? SW 260 is the latest firmware for NA RNS-E units, regardless of whether they’re MK1 or MK2.

0650 is for the EU MK1/1st-gen units. MK2/2nd-gen units have a higher resolution LED-backlit screen, faster processor, slightly updated UI, can handle high-capacity SDHC/SDXC flash cards, and can make use of the OEM AMI interface for iPod, HDD, etc. There's also some cosmetic differences like the chrome knobs and piano black screen trim.

IIRC, the latest firmware for the NA MK2 unit is 0230 (at least mine doesn't update further)

I have a 2008 S4 with Nav Plus RNS-E and Bluetooth and my iPhone works very well with WAVES - the verbal instructions play over the car loudspeakers very clearly. You have to set WAVES to use BT though.
