Unsatisfactory situation with 04 A6 2.7t Quattro from an independent luxury dealershi

    Tl;dr...

I got a lead on this car from the private party car section of my local craigslist.

A guy answered a 1-800 number and tells me it's at this dealership. It's a local place on the well to do side of town.

I'm young and I had enough cash to buy it. I needed to ask way more questions in hindsight.

    I bought it.

When I go to finally get in the car to drive off with MY A6... The service manager sends me off with saying these wheels like to leak.... Take it to tire barn, tell them I sent you and they can seal them.

Well a week and some days later I finally get to the specific tire barn becuase I was on the verge of ruining the tire on the wheel.

The damn wheel is cracked on the inside lip.

Tire Barn does a temp fix by putting a tire sticker over the crack to slow it down and mark where it is.

Tire barn calls the service manager at place where I got my car and tells me that the dealership is willing to pay to have it fixed.

It's gotta be fixed by another place and I don't recall the name.

So on Monday I have to speak with the dealership about all this wheel crap among other issues I am having.

SO, I need advice on this situation if y'all can help me out.

Is the dealership obligated to fix the wheel, or are they just being nice?

And I bought the car with them assuring me with receipts from their service department that they replaced the front break pads along with valve cover gaskets.

But the passenger valve cover (presumably) is leaking!

So do they need to fix that as well?

The dealer is just being nice most likely. Being a used car, it was sold as is with a very limited warranty as required by your state.

What makes you think your passenger valve cover is leaking? That is something that should probably be covered under the very limited warranty also unless there was some disclaimer otherwise. Just don't wait on that type of stuff.

Typically, the used car warranty is 90 days and covers a few things, but varies state-to-state. Don't do mods or anything that might "void" that warranty, its only 90 days. As soon as something comes up, tell the dealer.

Well I've had it in to my local mechanic's shop and he said it was leaking, probably near the valve covers. Its got the burning oil smell and it stops here and there on the cardboard I slide underneath it in my driveway.

But thanks that helps a bunch... I'm definitely going to look into a limited warranty. Gotta check the paperwork.

Well I've signed a generic "buyer's guide" and agreed to "AS-IS WITH NO WARRANTY" haha oops. Didn't negotiate worth shit and anything they fix is really just a good deed. In a way. IMO they are somehow obligated to fix the oil leak if it is leaking from their repair job.

I'm glad they offered to fix the wheel crack. But they don't know that when I call to set up the wheel repair, I'm telling them there are other issues we need to go over. The leak and a ripped CV boot. Plus I need to get the maintenance records so I can have an idea of when or if I need to do a timing belt replacement and other stuff similar to that. The water pump and thermostat.

I wanna know why they didn't care to repair the CV boot. And put new rotors on it. It could really use rotors too tho, but that's about it. The car drives damn good for 188k. So if my turbos, tiptron, and everything else last for about 15,000 miles..
It'll be great! Haha I'm jinxing myself now.

The body and paint are prolly only 6.5/10 however so maybe that explains not waisting time replacing $600 bucks on parts.

People at tire barn were mistaken, dealership is paying for squat. They'll get me their price on wheel repair. Ok.

The car is going to autohaus tomorrow to find the leak source and quote some smaller shit.

Autohaus wants 3 grand to fix it. The parts mark up is incredible. I got myself in quite a predicament here. But if took all the money I will have into the car and bought another... I wouldn't be able to find a car I would like more so there's that.

So the shop is charging a premium on the parts list for all o.e. parts and their year or 12000 mile warranty. What ever comes first.

I COULD get most of the parts on my own in a timing belt package and some other what nots for at least 800 bucks. Probably less. And do it myself with my resources...

So my brothers and I vs. A reputable shop's skill and 2 grand.

    Idk.

And the turbos may actually leak. Those repairs aren't possible.

Damn I like the car tho.
