    APR Stage 1 Supporting Mods

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am planning ahead for when I do a APR Stage 1 tune. Are there any recommended / required mods to help support the tune? This could mean anything from hardware to liquids (oil, etc).

For more info I have a 2015 S5, DSG, Sports Diff, (ECS) Kohlefaser Luft-Technik Intake.

From what I've read there isn't much actually required to go to Stage 1, I'm just being overly cautious.

intake is very worth it when doing any tune on these cars, but aside from that, don't need much else.

You should consider JHM Tune. I believe it's better then APR.

There aren't any requirements for the Stage 1 tune. But the tune works well in tandem with an aftermarket exhaust and intake. It is probably recommended getting the TCU tune for the DSG transmission to get the full benefit from the Stage 1 ECU tune, as the stock transmission settings have the car short shift the gears. But that's an optional recommendation and not a requirement.

I don't believe JHM has a tune for the 3.0T, only the 4.2L.

So would you recommend getting the exhaust first or after the tune. I read that the car will throw an error if I change the exhaust before tuning.

Also what TCU tune should I go with? Haven't done any research into this area. And are there any recommended supporting mods for that as well?

    Thanks for your help.

Only air filter or intake with a stage 1 to help it breathe. Nothing else until you go further as the rest is just optional. Its only when you go to a stage 2 that you will need supporting mods to get the benefits from it.

Stage 1 will give you (with a good tune) 90-100bhp increase on the dyno with just a filter :)

Realistically, exhausts cost a ton of money, and whether you have a tune or not, really won't net you a whole lot of power. You do exhaust on this platform for the sound. That said, the ECU (with or without tune) should compensate for the increased flow from intake and/or exhaust.

I haven't read anything about an error being thrown, but I had my exhaust installed after my tune.

I don't think I'm the right person to advise on the TCU tune, as I have a manual. But there is always a ton of talk on here and especially the B8 S4 forum about TCU tunes, as 90% of owners have the DSG. Don't be afraid to spend some time in the S4 forum, as it's damn near the same car, and is definitely more populated/active than the S5 forum.

No code with cat-back exhausts. If you delete your cats then that would trip a code.
