    Racechip experience on a RS7?

I hope I don't get flamed, but I'm curious if anyone has used a Racechip on the Audi RS7 (or another Audi)?

I'm guessing it wouldn't perform as well as an on-ECU tune, but the ease of install/removal is attractive.

Search chipwerke in the s4 section.

Ahh, that explains a lot. Same company, new name. Thanks.

    I believe they're different companies.

However, many on AZ have used Chipwerke products over the past year or so on various platforms with success- I'd guess that's why he mentioned CW. Haven't heard as much about RaceChip. Below is a thread here containing some discussion about the two though.

Ive had a Racechip without any problems on my S6 since August. I like it and would recommend it. I dont keep my cars more than a year so I like its simplicity and ability to sell when I dont want it anymore. Plus no issues through service. If I was keeping the car the full term of the lease or longer I would probably invest in APR/GIAC though.

With an rs7 I'd either tune it all the way or not at all. No disrespect to the guys with the chip, just my view on it...

I'm sorry, but anyone who uses racechip on an RS7 is just plain bonkers. They should have their RS7 impounded and available to the general public.

Canuck, is there something fundamentally wrong with these chips? I'm trying to understand since some users I've read about it have seen some competitive gains.

Let's just say the companies are sketch to be polite.

I emailed one of these companies (racechip or chipwerke, can't recall..last year) about some more details surrounding the product like dyno graphs etc...

Their response: check out some articles that were written about them (advertorials written by them actually) for all the details. End of story.

Any company that is THAT reluctant to share info, there is something going on imo. Good luck though if you go that route...

It's not so much 'is there something wrong with the racechips' as much as 'there is really nothing wrong with tuning your car properly'.

Basically the piggybacks just tricks your ECU into thinking they're putting out less boost so they will put out more to get up to the factory amount. Obviously that's not very technical language, but it's the concept unless Im mistaken.

This makes sense. So rather than adjusting the in-ECU engine maps in response to actual inputs (MAF, pressure, etc.) as in direct ECU tunes, it adjusts the input values from the MAF/pressure sensors into the ECU. In the ECU tune, the tune itself sends for higher real boost values. In the piggyback, it rewrites the sensor signals to the ECU to say that boost is less than actual so that the ECU adjusts to push more boost... at least that's what I've gathered.

It seems the final result would still be similar in terms of instructing the turbos to push more boost. One uses a real onboard remap, the other uses an inferred remap.

In terms of dynos, I've looked and couldn't find one of an RS7--though dynos on other cars exist. I would really like to see one on an RS7; as it really does not impart confidence not being able to see the real output. One thing I did notice is the German version of Racechip provides a powertrain warranty of 5000 euros for their devices and also have some very strict German warranty and vehicle registration laws to follow (the device has to be registered with the vehicle or fines can be assessed).

I agree a piggyback is not optimal, but for someone who has 100% ruled out a true ECU flash due to warranty/TD1 concerns, the piggyback is not a bad option.

While I haven't seen much feedback on the 4.0T piggybacks, for the 3.0T there is extensive data available in the form of ECU logs showing that the engines are running safely. I'd be sure to take logs if trying on the 4.0T to ensure that's the case here, but there is not much risk when approached correctly. My $0.02

I went piggy back (chipwerke) on my SQ5 just because the gains on stage 1 vs the various flash tunes net the same results (for 1/4 the price and no risk), plus because it's been proven on the 3.0t motor (mostly b8/b8.5). However for my RS7 I went with a flash (APR) because flash nets the most gains by a big margin. Both work great, both are reliable and I'm happy with the results on both platforms.
