Exclamation Allroad's with coilovers and 20" wheels?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi All - hoping for some guidance here. I am picking up my Allroad in a few days and will be modding pretty quickly. First up will be a set of ST coilovers to close the gap between the fenders and tire - that's the easy part!

Second will be the wheels. I have decided on a set of Rohana RC7's but I am concerned about the size, mainly width as I fear it may rub too much, especially with the ride height I plan to go with - I want to tuck on all 4 corners.

My question to those that have gone with coilovers, have 20" x 10" or 11" wide wheels and are low (tucked all the way around), have you had any issues with rubbing? I plan to use a more square tires set up at 275-30-20.

    Any input is greatly appreciated!

@J_Sims ur Allroad looks pretty effing awesome too! I'm picking up my coils this weekend and have 20x10.5, et30 wheels just waiting for me to buy some tires. I'm going to run 275/30/20 and I think I should be ok cuz I don't plan on having the car super low cuz I carry load in the back quite often.

I met a guy in LA last week. He had an Air Ride system. He was running 20 X 10.5, 275/30-20 with et19. No rubbing.

Allroad's with coilovers and 20" wheels?

My coilovers are set to about a 1 finger gap w/ 20 x 10.5, offset 30 and 275/30/20 Conti DWS06's rubs in the rear on hwy rolling dips and when I angle out on driveways and such. Will have to raise the car until I can find the time to grind out the inside of the rear flares.

Was this on an Allroad? Must have been?

I wanted to go 20x11 et28 lowered on coilovers and was strongly advised not to do this unless I rolled fenders, which I did not want to do.

You can't "roll" the AR fenders since they are plastic. You would basically have to grind them down like what Rickashae13 has planned.

So I have decided I definitely want to go with the Rohana RC7 in 20x11 ET28. I'll be ordering STX coilovers to lower the car and I want to lower the car at about the same height shown here on this members Allroad:

For those running 20x11 wheels, what mods have you completed in order to have them fit? I am reading that the inner fenders need to be trimmed in order for this to work, even with a 255 tire which is not a size I want to run.....I want to go with either 265 or, 275.

Any input from those running 20x11 wide wheels?

Are the regular metal fenders(regular avant) under those plastic flares or are they cut off?

There is a metal lip inside the fender flare that I have hooked with my tire. I had this "rolled" and did not have to grind the flares in the ft... In the rear I need to grind the plastic flare and the metal lip is not an issue.

I'm going to be getting rid of my B8 Avant here soon for an Allroad. Currently I'm Vogtland coilovers, which I like a lot. However the Avant is our road trip car, we load it up with 180 lbs of Golden Retreivers, Free ride mountain bikes on a hitch mount rack, and gear. The car's ass sags badly and handles/drives terrible when using an Avant like it's supposed to used. Are you guys loading up your Allroads? If so how do they take the extra weight? I'm thinking the H&R sport springs will be the only thing that really works well for how we use the car.

wow those are some aggressive fitments. I only had 20x10 ET33 on 275/35/20 (pictured below) with about a finger gap and I rubbed in the rear on large bumps and rolling dips on the highway. I just switched to 265/35/20 and no more rubbing.

I prefer a 'meatier' tire, ...but how bad was the interference with the 275/35's? What brand / model tire?
Beyond the no-rub with the 265/35's, how was price / selection / performance?

I had Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 for the 275/35s - I wanted to get the Continental DWSs, but if I remember correctly weren't sold in 275/35s. The Michelin's wore out after about 17k miles

As for the 265/35s I did get the newer Continental DWS 06s and they about the same price as the Michelin's and are holding up quite well after 10k miles. Here's a pic of the 265/35 continentals:
