    New SQ5 Axle-Back

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone! We're proud to announce the release of our new Touring Axle-back for the SQ5 platform. This system is great for those owners looking to get an improvement in tone, but still maintain a volume acceptable for daily driving. This system (19238) is constructed of mandrel bent 2.5" stainless steel, finished off with quad 3.5" double-walled tips. We took extra care to make sure this system retains the functionality of the OE exhaust valves, because you shouldn't have to compromise when it comes to your car. All of our exhaust systems are made here in southern california, and will come with a lifetime warranty. Let us know what you guys think! We'd be happy to answer any questions you guys may have.

I installed one of the first if not the first production unit. I think it's great! Just a little louder and deeper than stock. It's on my wife D/D and she like s it.

These systems are available now and currently in stock at a number of dealers! The MSRP price is $1523.12, and for installation you will cut your factory exhaust behind the stock resonator and use the included clamps to connect the new system.

Interior sound level should be close to stock at idle and cruise with no drone. Toptrim may be able to share his opinion on this as well. The AWE appears to be more than an axle-back, but this system will deliver a different tone.

This is true! There are a few vendors here on the forums that carry our products and frequently run promotions. If you keep your eye out, you can usually jump on the deals and save some additional money!

Would a person be able to use the Magnaflow system on their SQ5 along with the AWE non-resonated down pipes as well? I have always been a Magnaflow guy, had their systems on my last 5 vehicles. The allure to the AWE system is not only the sound increase, but you also gain around 20hp if you opt for the NRDP as well.

Is stock smaller than 2.5? 2.5 doesn't sound like a larger than stock size for a 3.0 liter supercharged application.

I have this installed (was one of the first ones with Top Trim) and absolutely love it. I didn't buy the SQ5 to be a racecar and wouldn't be able to live with the drone of the AWE. But, when i step on it i can hear it, deep and throaty. from out side the car it sounds even better and deeper! also maintains the valves so you can still swap comfort vs dynamic but, after turning off the Soundaktor thing i haven't found too much difference between the two exhaust settings

NOT super loud, doesn't replace the mid muffler that is why. so keep that in mind when thinking about buying it. if you want a rennwagen SQ then might not be for you.

Well to be fair, not everyone has experienced drone with the AWE system, and less so without the NRDPs. Also the AWE is a direct bolt on system, i.e. saving the stock system in tact. Pros and cons to both, but with reading thread after thread on A5 forums, S4 forums ect I have come to the conclusion that saying the AWE system has drone just isn't accurate.

Only reason I looked into it extensively is because I do a lot of daily highway cruising and long distance, and not enough people have complained about the drone to deter me from the AWE exhaust.

AJ, sorry I couldn't stop and chat yesterday. I was late for a job, hence the speed.

I don't think anyone has complained about the drone unless it was the full AWE system with the NRDP's.
The AWE system with resonators don't drone, and I have the stock exhaust with the NRDP's and no drone.

The AWE system with resonators don't drone, and I have the stock exhaust with the NRDP's and no drone.
Haha you were hauling. And no worries man. SQ looked great

And AWE goes all the way to the primary cats, afaik. It's like double the metal.

Only reason I looked into it extensively is because I do a lot of daily highway cruising and long distance, and not enough people have complained about the drone to deter me from the AWE exhaust.
Everyone's idea of drone is different, which is why you see so many conflicting reviews. The only real way to know for yourself is sitting in one and deciding whether you classify the noise as droney or bassy, ha! If you haven't done so yet I suggest it. My last Audi was straight pipes and aggressive, I'm a bit old for that in my daily now and live in an area where I don't want to draw attention from police.

I also wanted to retain the valves, and I thought the AWE tips were too aggressive for me. But the AWE will make more power for whatever that's worth. Magnaflow is just an axle back vs a catback like the AWE

Not knocking AWE at all since they are on the list, but being that the stock pipes are 2.5", AWE system is 2.5" and Magnaflow is 2.5" then there is a good chance not counting the NRDP in the mix that the Magnaflow will do just as well as the AWE system. If the stock piping size is being retained, then the gains will be mainly in the mufflers. The less restrictive muffler is going to allow more exhaust gasses to pass thru, so don't count Magnaflow out just because they are an axle back versus the catback.

Magnaflow is a top notch company, I've never had one issue with any of their products. On my 2001 Formula Firebird I swapped over from a Flowmaster catback to a Magnaflow catback. Same dyno with in days of the change with the same relative weather and the Magnaflow system put down almost 10rwhp more than the Flowmaster system. Plus it sounded better as well.

You are very correct on drone though, it is a very subjective item that is relative to each person who drives the vehicle.
