    Undercarriage Help

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,
I have a 2011 Audi B8 that I've had lowered on BC Racing Coilovers for 25k miles now. Last week I ripped the entire exhaust off of my car going over a manhole at 5mph. Anyways, after replacing my exhaust now I don't know what I can do to protect the new exhaust and the undercarriage as the plastic that the car comes with is crap and is falling apart at every section. FYI I have replaced the plastic over 5 times, and it's getting expensive and would like to know any alternatives. And no I'm not willing to raise the car height.

Aluminum skid plate is probably all you can do.

Making your own skid plate for the undercarriage since ecs doesn't cover much.

I'd check into off-road specific shops. See if they can't fab up some type of aluminum undercarriage plate for you.

That street shield is all I'm aware of off the shelf. It may be possible to weld some kind of custom piece to the rear of the shield, though, for some extra coverage.

Thanks for the responses. Has anyone done such a thing before in regards to fabricating one? Also the one from ecs only covers the oil pan area, I'm looking for something that covers the entire undercarriage.

either that manhole cover was raised up a fair bit or......do you have a pic with your current ride height that would create such a vulnerability with the undercarriage? Would love to see as a point of reference.

How are you so low a manhole cover can rip the exhaust off the car?
the ECS one is really the only one right now available. You might find something on eBay, but fit might be an issue. There is a company I think called Titan Skid Plates that made a bunch for the B5 and maybe B6. Contact them, see if they have a B8 plate planned.

I could see this happening as I've almost done it myself......Damn Mario Bros manholes here in Edmonton I've seen one at least 10inch over road level. I recently picked up the ECS ALU plate for a lil piece of mind.

If your soooo low that your exhaust is getting ripped off then you have other problems. I am pretty low and only once ripped part of mine off because of the curvature of the road. So I don't believe a metal skid plate is going to stop your exhaust from being removed 0.o

No not for the exhaust but other components will be better protected. Depends on where you live and road conditions.
