Black wheels - Satin/Matte or Gloss?

My local guy has been jacking me around with his ADVs that I was going to buy (I told him to F off really) and I found a vendor to let me trade in my old ADVs to apply towards some new HRE P104s.

I was thinking satin black, but now that my car is clean, all the black (+optics) is shining pretty good... looks glossy to me. I know I've read before from people who bought matte black wheels and regretted not going gloss. I was actually like 100% on the satin until looking at pictures all last night and now I'm thinking the gloss black might be better with my car.

I know, I know... "why are you asking random people" about preference?". My problem here is that I'm not sure what my preference is. My preference is for it to look as badass as possible.
I know I want black wheels with a Nogaro Blue RS7, but surely other folks have gone back and forth on this before.

Im about to get my wheels painted the next days, and i wasnt sure if gloss/matte too. But im going with the glossy.
I think gloss will look awesome on ur car.

P104s. Nice. I'm looking at matte gunmetal/graphite wheels with my Nogaro. Not sure which yet but P104 is one of the styles I like. 20 or 21?

Since your car is gloss, gloss wheels make sense. I'm going matte because of the stealth wrap that's getting installed right now. Hope it finishes today!

Next question would be about the HRE caps... $600 for CF? Sounds crazy. Standard white ones with the blue and little red swiss flag? I'm german, adopted by a swiss family and have a swiss name so I have a little bit of pride there. :) The blue kind of matches Nogaro Blue.

Yep, had them on my S6.

I'm just thinking Ferrari yellow brake calipers and like the black wheel look with this car. Have spent countless hours on google image search and feel good about where I'm headed here. Maybe 6 people won't like it, but one of them ain't me! :D

If black, then I vote for gloss for an RS7. Unless you were going with a titanium or gunmetal, then i might suggest the matte look.

The red white and blue HRE caps look great, they grew on me. I have the carbon and they look awesome, but you're right...600 dollars is crazy and the red white and blue are free! The carbon ones are real carbon tho and they are much better made, tighter fit with a retaining clip. Be careful when removing the caps from the wheels (especially the cheaper ones) and make sure you keep your fingers near the edges when you push. If you push on the center of the cap, you will bend and pop the decorative piece.

If you go black, I agree on the gloss black, I almost did that. The problem with all black wheels is that while they will look amazing when you are right next to the car, when you back away from the car a bit and from any distance, the spokes disappear in the shadows of the black inner barrels and you might as well have dirty black steel rims with no hubcaps on the car. That effect is even more pronounced with the satin/flatter finish. At least the gloss gives the surfaces of the spokes some pop and highlights their edges making them a bit more visible from farther away..

I decided to go with the brushed dark clear, because they are altogether more visible, but still a bit sinister. And if you saw that brushed/clear finish in person, it is like fine jewelry. It costs a bit more per wheel, but I think it is worth it. If I am gonna pay close to ten grand for a set of wheels, plain is not what I am looking for!

I just went back and looked at the pic of your car again. The gloss is like a no brainer with the rest of it. (but the brushed dark tinted clear would be awesome too!)

Gloss with the standard caps if they are included. If standard caps cost same as CF, then obviously CF caps. Either way your car is getting chiropractors paid and the wheels will look satin after 10 miles of driving due to the brake dust.

Because Nogaro Blue is a hard to come by finish (or at least it seems that way with my photo gallery), I don't have anything to really share that comes on your color RS7. The P101 certainly isn't a bad choice, neither is the P104 wheel, so in situations where you have to pick but you're unsure, it's always best to go with your gut and trust your instincts as cheesy as that sounds - that's what I do.

5 years later and I'm in the same position as you. I'm building a 21' S5 Coupe in Turbo Blue and plan to powder coat the Black Optic Wheels all black. I've been heart-set on gloss but after skimming through a ton of other members cars I see that satin is the go-to. However I still think that gloss is the way to go, given the color. Blue looks great with gloss wheels IMO. And frankly, whether ya get gloss or matte, within week of a car wash it all be satin lol.

If you have any updated pics would love to see the final product.
