Sanity Check Rare A6 2.7T

I am thinking of buying this car. It's Rare No Sunroof, Cloth Seats, No Xeons, 2.7T 6 Speed. So probably 1 of 1 in the US with these options / color. Cloth seats are like 200lbs lighter than sport leather seats.

It comes with a ton of new parts that are not installed. It's currently a roller, no engine, no transmission. I have another 2000 A6 with Engine and Transmission (6 speed) that I can use as a parts car to get this one fixed up. I have the know how to fix it no problem, so it's not a question of labor. The price is very good, i could probably sell the extra parts and recoup my investment. So it's not a question of value. It's more would you guys put a ton of effort into a car like this? Would it be worth it? It's not a S6 or Allroad or S4 or anything super special.

The car will need some paint, hood is peeling. Rest is ok. Interior is filthy, but it is just stained and can be cleaned. 130K miles on the chassis, clean title.

Price technically is zero, it comes with enough extra parts to cover the cost of the car. So it's not a question of value, rather is it worth restoring.

It takes a long time to get $1k from parting a car out. Sounds like you've made your mind up though :)

Shame it needs paint work, very cool that it's red. My worry would be the stains coming out of the seats. I'm a sucker for no sunroof though, I know it only saves a little weight, and it only makes the car a little more rigid. But the butt dyno says it's a racecar.

If it is free you can just get it from the guy and then sell it to pick n pull for $200 at this point, that car looks too far gone. Like 4rings said. If the paint was nice I would rebuild that car

Red is uncommon, right? Not rare for sure, but I think uncommon? No sunroof and cloth interior would be super hard to find again though.

Like you say though, DEFINITELY a dedicated track car situation.

Have you seen many no sunroof cloth 2.7t 6 speed cars? I wonder how many they made. I can't even find pictures of one.

It may be rare but it's certainly not desirable. No sunroof, cloth seats and no xenons just make the car worse. Only thing that may be nice is the no sunroof if you were making it into a track car.

Given that it will need new paint and the interior is trashed, along with all of the other work, it's a definite pass.

Also on top of cloth seats sucking- the seats do not save 200 lbs. I assume that was a typo on your end and you meant 20?

Front leather seats weigh 75-90 lbs each.

He claimed 200lbs for front and rear. I am sure it probably isn't 200, but could be decent amount of weight saved.

I'll weigh my front seats if I have to but pretty sure they're about 150lbs total.

Edit: if yours are manual and have no airbag then I can see some weight savings though.

I saw this car on craigslist and considered buying it but damn it is a lot of work. Good price though, its the only reason I looked at it.

You want to race a lighter car just get an A4 or TT that's got to be at least 600lbs lighter, seems like a waste of time but if you have time and want a project then go for it!.

Where is it located? And if its really that cheap, like tahoe said, figure out a way to lift it a few inches, get some 16" light truck tires... clean the inside, mount a CB radio, a nice long antenna, and basically you got a truck lol?

you can go a step further.. ever heard of smyth performance? they turn jettas into pick up trucks, no joke. I would imagine the same could be done with the a6. Put on some beefy shock absorbers. It would definitely be an investment but that would be bad ass. 6 speed a6 lifted pick up

Depending on generation of A4 they're only like 200lbs lighter. TTs are almost 1/2 ton lighter depending on spec.

6 speed 1 owner car with maintenance records. Low miles.

Had my friend check out the Allroad today. Car is mint. Winter package, Rear Parking sensors, 6MT 100k miles. Garaged single owner california car, $4900 couldn't pass it up. Best deal I saw nationwide. Car is super clean.

Had him give the owner deposit and flying there next friday to pick it up and driving it back to Texas. Let the modding begin :)
