    VCDS Help - Mac OSX

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey Guys,

I'm trying to get VCDS working on my MacBook. I am running a copy of Windows 10 through Parallels version 11, and have encountered some issuses.

    Screenshot:

I can access all blocks, except 3....all the other blocks allow me to access it correctly without issues. I am pretty sure it is an issue with running Windows 10 inside Parallels (VM). Anyone out there with OSX, and have VCDS working without issues, who can possibly give me some pointers?

    Thanks in advance!

well, attempting to access controllers not present on our car (like 22-AWD in your screenshot, which is for Haldex-based cars like the TT/Golf R) is going to yield no response, so that's normal.

I would recommend boot camping that jazz. You have no specific need to run it virtualized, right? I mean, if it works - that's handy. But if it's giving you fits, I'd recommend running in on bare metal.

Are you able to access those 3 blocks on a regular Windows PC?

That was my guess. So was that the problem here all along or is there another problem?

I'll let everyone know once I'm able to test the correct modules.

    Thanks,

Guys, the easiest solution is to use "Virtual Box" to run Windows. its free and leaves a very small footprint. I use it solely for VCDS

    Hey Everyone,

So, I tested out each controller (block), and the following ones failed:

    ------------
    02-Auto Trans
    18-AUX Heat
    19-CAN Gateway
    22-AWD
    35-Centr Locks
    ------------

I understand why some of these do not work (02-Auto Trans and 22-AWD), but are the rest 'normal' also?

    Thanks,
    Asif

Your fine, nothing wrong with it. None of the measuring blocks are applicable to your car.

Thanks for clarifying that guys! At least that makes sense why it fails when selecting certain modules (blocks)! =)

However, I guess the bigger issue is still around the "communication error" messages with the auto-scan feature. While it appears to work correctly when choosing individual modules (blocks), it still fails on the auto-scan. Sometimes it even fails even on the very first engine block with the communication error message. I'm assuming (at least on native Windows installs) that VCDS is like, "Oh you don't have an auto-trans" let me skip this module and move on to the next. Instead, I get the communication error above it just stops dead in it's tracks.

It probably is an issue with running Windows inside a VM on OSX. I'll keep digging and see what I can figure out.

    Thanks everyone!

Easiest way to eliminate the Mac from being the problem is to run an auto-scan on a Windows PC and see if you come up with the same thing. Is it a genuine Ross-Tech cable?
