Took our TDi in for its 15K service yesterday, got a '15 Q7 as a loaner. Random quick observations:
- 600 more lbs. of weight + 100 less ft. lbs. of torque = a MUCH less responsive vehicle. The 3.0T is an outstanding motor, but its (relative) lack of torque is glaring in comparison.
- smallish MMI screen looks lost in the bigger dash
- MMI configuration feels a generation older - more hard buttons and harder to use overall.
- Ride is nice enough, but not as "settled" as our Q5's
- It seems noisier overall - road noise, mostly, but the 3.0T also sounds off when revved, and you have to rev it to get the thing to go! The sounds it makes are good, just a bit noisier than would be ideal.
- Nice car, and I understand why it continued to sell well even just prior to being replaced, but I like our TDi better.
Also, they had a 2017 Q7 on the showroom floor, so I took a quick look. REALLY nice inside, looks better outside than it had seemed from the pics, but it's a conservative look that won't offend, but won't excite, either.
Stunner: Sticker price was $85K!!!! It was well-loaded, but $31K in options is insane, approaching Porsche levels of options insanity!
Good thing it also handily won the new comparison test in C&D against the X5, RRS and Volvo XC90...
