are these legit Valeo ecodes?

I bought these from ECS. not as that standard B5A4S4XENON part package, but as two seperate part numbers one of the sales reps gave me. they came in today and this is what I see in the lense:



I was under the impression the rings indicate the fuzzy US lens. I was hoping to get the crystal clear euro lens. am I misinformed or did something change? every bit of info I can find says these should have a crystal clear lens. these do have the clear corner lens and city light like the ecodes, just this damn lens throwing me off. here's a pic of one of the part numbers if it helps:

If it's from ECS im sure its legit. I'm fairly sure all the s4 projector lens are like that, Euro or not. You may be thinking of the TSX projector lens. Either way this is what you need to read:

That's the standard lens, you can see the lens by itself in the headlight thread.

Yup, your E code has a US lens. I would call them and see what the difference is

I would say those lenses do not even match the US valeo lenses. Maybe they've "upgraded" or changed their product. Did you pay the premium price of ~600?

That looks to be a fresnel type lens, and not a "flat" clear lens.

yep. it was $309 per housing. they don't seem upgraded. the lens just looks hazy. I owned a pair of genuine ecodes several years ago and remembering the lens being like crystal. these aren't the same at all

I read through that and a ton of info online. I wasn't sure if maybe something changed since my original set of ecodes several years ago. I'm not thinking of the TSX-R lens. the Valeo ecodes I had on my last B5 were much different. these seem downgraded as the lense is hazy looking

anyone have a good contact at ECS? I've been emailing a "customer service" rep and she doesn't have a clue as to what I'm talking about with lens spec. she keeps saying, these are euro headlights. they are definitely euro housings, but the lens itself is not. I emailed ECS before buying these and specifically asked if they were the exact same that were fitted on the euro RS4/S4 and the rep said yes.

she's saying because I received the part I ordered, I'm responsible for return shipping which would be close to $40. not trying to flame anyone, but this seems wrong.

that's good stuff. there's a guy on eBay selling sets names start245 and he lists those exact part numbers. should've went with him

They are definitely legit European headlights. Over the years they could have changed the lens. But the numbers match up from what MacDaddy posted, see the link below.

It's been almost 20 years since a production model B5 RS4 has been made. It's definitely not uncommon for suppliers to make changes.

hey Jason, I don't at all doubt they're legit Valeo ecode housings. I'm definitely not accusing you guys of selling bunk merchandise at all. it has the city light bulb and the clear corner instead of amber. my only qualm (love that word) is with the lens. would they have still used the frensel lens on a European housing? this was one of my prime reasons for ponying up the $620 for these bad boys. thanks for any info you have.

ps I'm about to drop another $900 or so on an order. any way you can do free shipping? it has H&R springs in it which is the only reason shipping was added :-)

that's a pretty bad ass link. I can actually run number of the lens on the projector housing. Valeo placed two stickers on each which have what seems to be unique numbers. should tell me about the lens itself

I did end up tossing them in. I also used osram 66240CBI's. I have to say: they seem incredibly crisp and piercing compared to the stock S4 housings. the ones I removed from this nogaro B5 were a bit weathered, but I've owned 10 B5's. these housings absolutely are comparable to the legit RS4 housings I had on my last stage 2 B5. I used OEM D2S bulbs on those and they were very clean and bright, but this combo of housing and bulb seems to be far above those.

Valeo may have improved this lense despite it looking like the same US DOT frensel. I can't say for sure. all I know is it turned out great.

undoubtedly a better output. I picked up the bulbs from a legit Amazon seller. they weren't cheap. $150 for the set. but they dazzle.

I'll take good picks tomorrow night. I have a screen shot from me driving by, but nothing showing the cutoff or headlight brightness.

Help me understand though. When I order the ecodes from ecs. What wxactly am I getting??

Yes. Swap in your xenon electronics into the housings. I think you even swap in auto levelers.

^that. to get great output, all you'd need are the euro housings and a good bulb. assuming your ballasts are still working properly. and your question about the projectors: the housings include the upgraded projector. vwjetta was spot on when he said they upgraded the lens. its a night and day difference between this lens and the US spec frensel
