New S4 Owner with (probably newbie) Issues

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    1. Whenever I am going slow (under 10mph), or reversing, I can clearly hear the car making sounds close to an RC.

    2. I love to shift "manually," either with the paddles or the shifter. I have noticed that when I am at slow speeds and shifting down to first, there is a distinct gated manual sound and a slight jerk.

    3. I purchased my '13 S4 Prestige pre-owned, and its interior has only two flaws. The first and most important is the drivers seat rattling on lightly bumpy surfaces. I have noticed that the seat is touching the center console, and when I place my hand in between the crevice the rattle seems to stop. I don't know if I should put foam in between, as I think it might look a little dinky in such a premium interior. The second interior issue has to do with the Start/Start button and the volume knob on the center console. The Start/Start button is a little scratched up and being very OCD about my car, it pisses me off. Is there any easy ways to improve it/replace it? As for the track/volume knob, it seems to be lose and when I push for a different track it feels as if I am going to break it.

If you made it this far in this post, thank you for your time. It would be highly appreciated if anyone could help me with my issues.

2 Don't downshift into first, let the car do it for you. It will shift into first when you come to a stop. If you notice when you're in auto mode it won't shift into first until it stops.

3 Are you under warranty? If so take it in for all of those issues.

Thanks for the reply. I have a warranty, but didn't think that they would be able to do anything for me.

My 2015 makes the "RC motor" sound in 1st only at low speeds. I have always assumed it's just first gear. I haven't had any issues nor have I ever asked my dealership about it. I think it's normal but if it's of concern, bring it to the dealership if you are under warranty.

And yes, let the car down shift in to 1st for you.

Audi is typically very good on any issues while under warranty, even the little things. The dealership makes money on warranty repairs. Don't worry about being OCD over your car; we are all OCDish, or else we'd be driving Chevys.

ahahaha, then you would be at the dealer once a month with a chevy lol. But yea the dealer wants to preform warranty on your car because they make money. But the clunk when shifting down to first while coming to a stop is normal. Mine does it when I shift down to 1st. I just think its normal. I would take it in if your worried. Also I would take it in for the rattles. I think the R/C noise is just the S/C rotor noise if you are at high rpm and let off and let the engine slow down by itself, I dunno I've either never heard it or I just classified it as normal.

If I couldn't get the knob fixed for the volume/skip track, and besides the MMI, is there any way to skip songs? I hate to have to keep my hand on the little knob/button, or go to the control page under media. Also, I'm taking the car tomorrow for brake pads, so I'll be able to run through these issues with the service center.

A TCU tune + Transmission mount will get rid of that cluck when downshifting to 1 issue.

Hes talking about manually shifting into first, which you shouldn't do.

Why are you manually downshifting into first. The car will do it on its own like its supposed to.

Sounds like normal dsg sounds. These trannys are electronically controlled dual-clutch multiple-shaft manual gearboxes. Sounds rather normal to me. These aren't going to be as smooth as a normal auto trans with a TC

I wish I could hear the supercharger, but sadly it's not. I'll take a video of the sound and post a youtube link here tonight.

If you don't want to use the knob or the MMI you can use the steering wheel controls. In the B8 (I think in the B8.5, too) you can use the roller on the left side of the steering wheel. Click it once or roll it one notch to get the song list to show up on the DIS, then scroll and click to change tracks. PITA, but it's what you wanted to know. The B8 cars have forward and back skip buttons on the console that work like the volume knob in your car. Much easier :)

Coming to a stop i dunno. I only do it very rarely though. But it does clunk if I'm like 15mph and down shift to 1st.

reverse is explained by the reverse cog being static, first gear should not have a significant noise tho
