    Transmission issue?

Hey guys my 04 avant quat.
Runs and drive but needs some type of work. IDK what though.
This is the car I was using for my daily commute, The car can drive for about 80 miles with no problem, however if you stop at a light, stop sign or even if you need to stop when stuck in traffic, the car won't drive anymore. You will have to turn the engine off, give it 5 minutes and then turn it on again to keep on driving. I don't know what is wrong with the car, I'm guessing it needs some transmission work. any ideas?

What exactly do you mean it wont drive anymore? Like you give it gas and it just revs or it locks you out of gear? Does your gear selector light up all red when you come to a stop?

    Need some more information.

The car dies and basically sits in limp mode. I cannot start it. I let it sit for 5 mins and then fire it back up. then it drives for the allotted time / miles again.

Likely have to scan the car to see what codes are popping up.

If the engine dies, it's likely not a transmission issue. Could be a sensor going bad or a vacuum leak. Like Jason suggested, try to get a scan done of the ECU to give you a starting point.

Transmission torque converter staying locked up at a stop light/sign will kill the engine.

If that is your problem you should have a code for the torque converter clutch or solenoid.

I assume we're talking about an auto box.

Good point, but the OP never mentioned if this is a manual, Tiptronic, or CVT transmission in his car.

If a manual it could be the crank position sensor. I had very similar issues.

If you have Tip the next time it turns off turn on the car and move it to the tip and see if you are stuck on gear 3-4 mine locked up at stop and leaving the drive way turned on the car and was showing it was on gear 3. I had a bad torque converter. Since I replaced the torque converter 43K miles ago I decided to just sell the car :( I know sad...
