question for those experienced with the tip/6speed swap

I completed my swap about a month ago. I haven't done any of the recoding yet as I need to either buy the VAGCOM cable or find someone locally with one. Before I do, I'm looking for some insight if anyone has some. Here are the specifics:

    1) I installed an RS4 cluster, which SHOULD have been preset for manual since that's the only way they were made, correct? I was under the impression most of the recoding is for the cluster so it knows where to pull info from. Please correct me if that's wrong.

    2) I cut and removed the wiring plug that used to connect to the valve body on the tip trans.

    3) I removed the TCU completely from the car.

    4) I did not reconnect the brake pressure sensor on the side of the brake fluid reservoir as I'm under the impression 6 speeds don't have that.

    5) I also disconnected the sensor on the vacuum canister next to the PS fluid reservoir for the same above reason.

I have an illuminated ESP light, ABS light and the flashing brake warning symbol in the center of the DIS on the RS4 cluster. What I'm wondering is, should I still need to recode the ECU/Cluster since I'm using an M-box from a 6 speed and an RS4 cluster? Would really like to get rid of these Christmas lights. Thanks to the B5 pros for any advice

First off, welcome to the tip to 6-speed swap club. I'll answer as much as I can.

    1) I installed an RS4 cluster, which SHOULD have been preset for manual since that's the only way they were made, correct? I was under the impression most of the recoding is for the cluster so it knows where to pull info from. Please correct me if that's wrong.

    A) You will still need to recode the RS4 cluster for it to work properly in your car.

    2) I cut and removed the wiring plug that used to connect to the valve body on the tip trans.

    A) That is fine you can either cut it or zip tie them away. Not going to be needing them.

    3) I removed the TCU completely from the car.

    A) Not needed good to remove it.

    4) I did not reconnect the brake pressure sensor on the side of the brake fluid reservoir as I'm under the impression 6 speeds don't have that.

    A) Not needed when converting to 6-speed.

    5) I also disconnected the sensor on the vacuum canister next to the PS fluid reservoir for the same above reason.

    A) Not needed when converting to 6-speed.

6)I have an illuminated ESP light, ABS light and the flashing brake warning symbol in the center of the DIS on the RS4 cluster. What I'm wondering is, should I still need to recode the ECU/Cluster since I'm using an M-box from a 6 speed and an RS4 cluster? Would really like to get rid of these Christmas lights. A) You will need to recode the cluster first. Then the ABS, and last the steering angle sensor G85 if, that code pops up in Vagcom. There are lots of info on the web on calibrating these items. I have not successfully cleared the ABS, traction control light, and brake light yet. I am very close though. Once I crack it, I'll post it in my build thread. Good luck to you on getting these lights off.

I assume cruise control doesn't work.
What about recoding the ECU and adding / wiring the clutch-position switch?

If the ECU is still coded as Auto and there's no clutch switch and wire to the ECU, then the ECU doesn't know when the clutch is pressed and how to modulate load/ fueling for emissions and...it'll drive better. You will also get an error if the cluster is coded for manual and the ECU is still auto.

no, so i posted that the car has a manual M-box. it was already coded from the factory for 6 speed use. 034 did my stage 3 tune and the ECU itself is good to go. the cluster is also coded for manual. but I read a post by robzilla that with tip wiring harness throughout the car, the cluster will still go to various modules for different functions. I wasn't sure if this was still the case since my original post said both ECU and cluster are from a 6 speed setup.

both clutch sensors are connected and installed. I'm not referring to CC functionality. my concern is for the ABS, ESP, and flashin brake light on the DIS. was checking how to clear. what zilla and xalents have said makes sense and should clear my issues.

I did 4 manual swaps in 2015.... All have no lights. I followed this thread, worked for 2 allroads, s6, a4:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...al-swap-wiring
Check coding on cluster, check coding on ecu, recode abs, should be good to go.

thanks for that link mbandit. it's weird: I started the car today after installing headlights, and for the first time since I did the swap, the center DIS was fine and I had no brake or ESP lights on. then after 10 seconds, it reared its ugly face again.

I'm still piecing the suspension overhaul together and then moving on to an interior regut. once I've gotten everything completely sorted, the recoding will be done. I have to buy the cable or find someone in Chicago area who knows their stuff

Yep, buy the cable. You should be able to figure out the coding easily. I think recoding usually takes 10-15 min total... And at that point you should be able to figure out if you have a seperate abs issue

I know a few members including myself have been trying to get the coding to stick to no avail. It will accept it, but it doesn't always save it permanently.
