Replacing stock hoses with silicon hoses - Need sizes/advice

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey all,

So Im looking to replace vacuum/coolant/etc hoses with silicon hoses since 15 years Arizona heat takes its toll on anything rubber or plastic. Since I have the motor out, I was looking to replace as many hoses as possible.

Right now I have my list as:

Spider hose DIY - 1/2" silicon heater hose
Wastegate lines - 1/4" or -4an braided steel hose
    DV/vaccum lines - 4mm silicon vacuum line
    N249/N80 lines - ?
    Radiator hoses - ?

If I were to just buy a bunch of different sizes of hose, what sizes are most common?

Any other lines that should be replaced?

I read spider you want to go larger than 1/2 If there is not flexibility. Don't quote me those that's just what I read.

Spider hose is 5/8" for all but the short leg to the intake.
I use 5/8 x 1/8 wall silicone hose and 5/8 kynar fittings from mcmaster.

There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

Do it! Cheap, easy, and works great.

The toughest part is prob the mani vac because of the smaller size.
I usually vta the n75 and use the left over port if using the mani vac. Its about the same size.

They are very flexible so easy to work on and fit nicely to the motor if you do it right.
    This is my car

I gotta get on that asap. Nice intake and valve covers. Looks wicked. Is that powder coat?

Vtec wrinkle blue. I thought it would help the vtec kick in harder, but it didnt do shit

VHT Wrinkle Plus. Red and black are easy to find, but the blue was a little tougher.
This is a little closer to the actual color. Pretty much noggy.

Do you have to reuse the stock ends? only asking cause mine are all mostly broken. What size would I use if I hose clamped the ends?

Stock ends make it easy to work on so do it that way if at all possible.

My guess would be almost 1" if you want to clamp it directly on. Ill see if I can find one to measure.

Makes sense, are they useable if one side of the clip is broken?

There should only be vac in there if all is well so clips are just a bonus.
Should be fine as long as it stays on there.

The only section that sees psi is the smaller one on the back of the mani, and only from the clip to the check valve.

Just checked one, 7/8" would be perfect if you want to clamp the hose directly to the ports.

I think the only one I would do this on is early style with fhose delete.
The 5/8" fittings on the pancake or smaller in mani line would add complications otherwise.
