So a guy buys two Q5s...

Hey there - long time Avant owner, now a Q5 owner x2. Had a couple of these when I managed a fleet when Audi launched NA SUVs in 2008, but never really pulled the trigger on ownership. Liked the gray one so much we balled up and picked up the white one... Two Audis? What could go wrong?

Most likely, this will be a repair and trouble shooting thread as I get used to them. But they're easy with the kid seat and tanks in the snow!

White (wife): Loretta, 2011 2.0t, 85k miles, black interior, everything option you could put in it. Needs tune, downpipe, pulley, camshaft code addressed and a passenger exterior door handle...

Grey: Hilda, 2010 3.2, 108k miles, black interior, weird option package but still has open sky. Needs CV boots and probably a suspension refresh.

Already have a month of repairs planned for them, so look for me to circulate through here.

They are technically both "Utah winter grey" right now :)

    I love Audis.

I'm trying to push the wife into a Q5 or the new Q7 but she's fixated with her RX350 and wants to upgrade to the 450H.

prob not the right time to get into a Q5, unless you're ok with buying at the end of the model year. i've been shopping for a MB GLC300 for my mother-in-law. that's one good looking car, if you're ok with going MB.

We just started shopping the GLC as a replacement for the Q5. Not much inventory or selection in the Chicago area. I usually don't special order cars, so not sure what I'll end up doing. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm liking the looks of the 2017 Allroad that's been announced for the U.S. A little something different in the sea of CUV's.

seems like the GLCs are just trickling in, and the ones that are available are pretty stripped down. i have one on order, and may put another one on order soon - trying to find the best deal possible. the first order was placed in early/mid january and is due to arrive at the end of this month - so 6-8 weeks total. if your dealer allows you to order with a refundable deposit, may as well put one in and figure everything else out later. i drove the car and liked it. it looks really good inside and out. the 2.0t is a bit lacking, but it's ample. i think it's peppier than the 2.0t in audis (just had a q3 for a loaner). the 9-speed transmission seems to help things out nicely.

Are the dealers in your area discounting the GLC much? I haven't talked pricing yet to any around here.

i have one on order for about 5.5% off MSRP. i'm working on another two dealerships to get 10% off, which is about as good as anyone has gotten. there's a thread on prices paid on mbworld. i believe at least one person contributing to that thread is in the chicago area.

The new Q7 seems awesome. Have yet to test drive it, yet... I'm too much of a masochist to not buy a car that's 5 years old.

So, the CV boots are toast on Hilda. Going to have to do that service.

Has anyone done the axles on these, recently? Any aftermarket axles that you recommend?

So a guy buys two Q5s...

What sort of pulley are you talking about for the 2.0t?

Also it's an 8-speed tranny not 9-speed to whoever mentioned it. But who's counting...

Edit: nevermind. Didn't realize you were talking about the benz.

It's an Eurocode Rotamass Lightweight Crank Pulley for TFSI. Currently sitting in my garage new in packaging since I sold the A4, and never installed it.

Huh. I've heard of some for the 1.8t and fsi 2.0t. Figures there would be one for the ea888 engine too. You really expect any gains from that? IMO lightweight pulleys don't really do much positive and removing the dampening abilities from the OEM harmonic dampener outweighs any benefit of the lighter weight.

I guess I just put it on my checklist of things to purchase. I've just always had lightweight pulleys on everything from my VR6 to 1.8t. I live at 7,000' and find that (even if it's just in my head) i feel the butt dyno a quicker response. "as much as 5hp"... hey, if the car already has the bumper off why not?

Ahh. Yea at altitude I would imagine ever little bit can help.

Personally, I'd rather not mess too much with things that interface with the timing systems. Of course I've never had a chain driven Audi until the q5 so they could be different.

Eesh, cam codes and misfires galore. Under boosting, too. Little 2.0t is going to get some work done on it.

New spark plugs, new coil packs, and new air filter. in addition, we added oil back. Essentially driving a 2-stroke!

For fun, we found euro tails for like $100

correct. Left was the old, Right is the new to show the difference. Probably should have specified that.

Crossed off some more oil changes! 113k miles in Hilda the Grey. Still having some serious engine issues with the 2.0t...

Anyone know the engine/ride weight differences in the Q5 3.2 and the SQ5? The reason I ask is I'm about to have to start replacing bits, and I think the SQ5 might be a good donor option for low mileage pieces while you all go air ride ;)

    Hit 114k in Hilda, today!

Noticing a "ticking" sound coming from her when turning and accelerating. Not wheel related, so thinking possibly tie rod ends or other suspension pieces. Does anyone know what suspension kits we share? is it all B8 or are some of the bits different?
