Hi all, the info screen in my 2000 a4 1.8t has gotten to the point where it is broken up and difficult to read. I got this code yesterday and am having a hard time figuring out what it is. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Go to tinypic.com, upload the picture, use the IMG tags with picture.

    Here we go:

I'm going with overheat warning, but I really can't be sure. Does it flash? Does it beep? How many times? When does it give this warning? Key on? Or when engine running?

Wouldn't the temp gauge be high though? You can see it is pretty low in the picture.

His exterior temp sensor is broken thus the -49F, pretty sure it hasent gotten that cold. It could be the frost warning but it doesn't look like a snowflake really.

Pretty sure because his screen is bad, it looks like -49 when in fact it is reading +49

I thought it was over heat too cause it almost looks like a radiator type symbol, but my temp was fine as redline comments below and I checked my coolant level which was also fine. I was driving home at night, it beeped once and stayed on until I got home and turned the car off. Hasn't came back on yet.

When does it happen, like at which point when you are driving?

My screens are junk too, but they work in the morning when still cold. Maybe you could try to trigger it when it is cold?

call me crazy, but that symbol kind of looks like a "circuit cutoff" symbol when you have a bad bulb, IE could be headlight, tailights, maybe fog lights. You turn the car off it goes away until you turn on your lamps.

@redline it only happened last night on my drive home.
@SN95 that's actually a good call I had my lights on last night but not this morning. I'll check it out and post back

No problem! It happened to me recently as well. One of my aftermarket ballasts went out. I have a new one ready to go in but I didn't get around to it yet.

But the bulb "X" symbol is yellow (because non critical). This one appears to be showing in Red Mode. There are only a few warnings that are red. I think they would be Oil pressure, overheat, brake fluid low, very low voltage, and maybe oil level minimum.

I'm thinking overheat warning due to reservoir empty sensor. Those sensors will sometimes fail, or come unplugged.

Here's an idea: if you have VCDS, you can do a cluster test and it will show all the various warning displays in a loop. By comparing to the known order of the images, you can determine what that one is.

Just hopped in a B6 and noticed that its screen was only showing the 3/4's of the + symbol and thought of this thread.

Edit: Did some research, and I can't seem to find a symbol that looks like it would fit your icon. Its strange because it seems off center. Walky is right that its a red warning light though.

Isn't there a list of possible readouts in the owners manual? I think what's showing there is just some phantom stuff due to the failing screen. Also, if the outside temp was 49*, I think it would just show 49* and no "+" symbol.

Looks to me like its possible coolant level warning. I do believe if you scan the instrument cluster with VCDS it will tell you the fault. EDIT: after thinking about it for a min. don't "red" warning faults show up on the entire instrument cluster? So it would remove the temp display and instead display the fault?

Isn't that the spot where it displays cd track info? Did you have a cd in?

It also shows radio station info if RDS is turned on, and nav directions if you have that. As far as I know there are no red warnings that don't take up the whole screen.

^This guy is smart. Red warnings do take up the entire screen. Makes sense.

Looking at the display again, it really looks like:

    CD 01
    TR 02

    Or something like that.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I think you may be right. It wasn't the lights. I checked oil and coolant, both are fine. Its running fine too, smooth idle, steady temp & voltage etc.
