Possible to blow out an EGT sensor?

And by "blow out", I mean the probed sensor coming completely out of the downpipe.

Long story short, just got the car back from the body shop after being rear ended. Took it in completely fine...picked it up with an exhaust leak. Looked around to find where it was and ended my search when I noticed about half of the probe was visible.

The thing is, it seems like the threads are still in tact. So is it a coincidence that it was loose and just so happened to come completely undone while it was there? I was just in that area when I was bleeding the heater core and didn't hear anything then(if it had been loose and slightly leaking). And I'm guessing if it somehow blew out that the threads would be fubar'd.

Unfortunately haven't been able to mess with it anymore and confirm if the threads are ok.

Sure it's possible if the compression nut was loose.
