I visited 034 Motorsport's Open house/ Dyno Day and had them do 2 runs. Great bunch of guys. I hope to have some work done soon.

Mods: JHM Tune, JHM downpipes and JHM full exhaust with cats and resonators, intake spacers and 6 rib crank pulley. Carbon clean less than 1000 miles ago.

BayAreaB5DashCamera caught the runs on video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpEYsspSHLM

Cool did you have a baseline done there before? I know their dyno reads pretty low.

Sounds great! I must have got there after you'd left. Are those good numbers? I have a similar setup, but without a frame of reference, those numbers don't mean anything to me yet. What does a bone stock RS4 baseline? What do some other cars baseline at?

Nice. I got 329awhp two years ago on 034's dyno, following my carbon cleaning as well. Stock tune, stock downpipes, intake spacers and AWE cat-back exhaust. Looks like the JHM tune doesn't buy you much power, but it does look like it smoothed out power delivery quite a bit. On my dyno chart there's a significant hump at 5400rpm:

    Image shows before/after cleaning (a +42awhp improvement).

It looks like ~330awhp is a pretty good, on-par number for stock/very lightly modified RS4s on 034's dyno.

Thanks rs4max! That's helpful. Carbon clean FTW. Never ceases to amaze me how much power a carbon clean uncorks. My car just had its first in almost 80K miles.

No baseline number. My butt dyno says my carbon clean was worth at leas 30-40 crank horsepower. I don't think the previous owner ever did a clean. Their new dyno is known to be a heart-breaker from what I hear too.

Ya i took off after noon. Originally my dyno runs were at 2PM but I asked 034 to bump my time up and the were cool enough to do that. Not bad but not great numbers from my research. Pretty typical for a tuned/exhaust RS4. Stock cars run about 295-315 to the wheels. i have seen charts as low as 265 on a carbon-ed up car. Really the dyno is just a way to gauge modifications....every dyno reads differently.

Do you know if your numbers were on 034's old dyno or thier new dyno? I have heard this new one is 5-7% lower. Thanks for posting your graph. Super helpful to have info to compare.

It really is a shame these cars suffer from the carbon buildup.....because they pull so march harder when clean!

That was a pleasant surprise running into you all from the Norcal RS4 group. Thanks for being very inviting. I will definitely be there for the drive later this month!

I just caught the part about your +42awhp improvement.....that is a crazy amount of power loss due to buildup. No wonder my car feels so much punchier after the clean, damn.

Noticed your graph goes to 8000 and mine cut at about 7800. I though these thing pull through 8250 RPM and up to 8500 with a tune. Maybe 034 plays it safe and shuts down early

So an awe catback and intake spacers pick up 29hp? It seems to me that this dyno reads higher than that.

Sounds really mean!!! I would of thought you'd be closer to the 350 area with your mod list..... and the WTQ seems pretty lower than I'd expect guess that's a tough dyno to run on. Did any other RS4 / S4 run the same day with you?

This is a low reading dyno. Both RS4 above were done on same dyno. It's good numbers. My custom 034 tune was doing about 335whp that's on a k04 b5 s4. So that's definitely impressive. For a relative my S4 in the same setup made 410whp on the old dyno..

A stock RS4 wouldn't do more than prolly 310whp so 330 w his upgrades are very good numbers!

Can 034 dyno tune an RS4? I believe they're set up as official Cobb tuner so I'm guessing they dyno tune Subarus.

The motor feels healthy but I'd love to remove the cats to see what is gained. Also I'd like do some maintenance items and see if they are worth anything (injectors/plugs) I didn't see any other RS4s on the dyno while I was there but I left early. Maybe 034 would share some graphs of previous RS4s if I asked.

Seems like fair numbers to me. I always hear conflicting opinions about 034's dyno so its good to have another piece of honest data on the table.

My point is, the JHM tune and your mod list have consistently shown gain of about 40whp/40wtq. This has been backed by both dyno before and afters and acceleration testing. since you have no baseline of your car, then this dyno really doesn't mean much to you. If you want to know if your car is healthy, without drag strip testing, I'd recommend doing a few 3rd gear 3k-8k videos. That is a pretty good gauge to see how the car is accelerating.

A 42whp gain due to a CC is laughable and I'd really question dyno manipulation.

A JHM tuned RS4 with full JHM exhaust should blow away a stock tuned car, if anyone think it would be close because #dyno, then you are part of the problem.

That is a great idea for the 3K-8K pulls, I will do that.

I ran a 13.5/13.3/13.2/13.1 over the course of the JHM Audi Night at Sacramento raceway. This was before the intake spacers/crank pulley (not worth anything really) and most importantly before the carbon cleaning. I don't think this car had a single carbon clean before 70,000 miles. I need to run it again....probably at Sonoma Raceway next time.

My terrible 1/4 miles time add up to the fact I have no idea how to launch an AWD car on all seasons as you can see by the video at minute 3:51. ha! https://youtu.be/JnsMopBNx8U?t=227

I could believe it- assuming the buildup was really bad and/or it had not been cleaned previously. I recall several before and after dynos from members here showing ~30 whp from a carbon clean.

    Seems like some good results!

Comparing dyno's from two different cars, on two different days is not going to tell you much of anything useful unfortunately.

I wouldn't consider a carbon cleaning being worth that much power on average. But I mean, if the car had like 150k worth of build up then maybe?

30-40hp seems like a large gain from just carbon cleaning. Are you sure you didn't just have a vac leak from a loose hose maybe that happened to get fixed when the car was put back together?

Maybe even fuel filter/ clean air filter.... When I had dyno'd my S4 we didn't have any other B6/7's run but ten other Audi's ranging from stage 2 B5, V8 S5, and a Rs4 so I guess it helped establish some sort of baseline.....

I'm very sure there was no vacuum leak on the car, and the only things that were done were: pre-cleaning dyno pulls, then cleaning, then installation of the intake spacers and new flap linkages, then post-cleaning dyno pulls. Pre and post dyno runs were within 3 days of each other, with same weather, same outside temperature and pressure, same oil, same tank of Shell 91oct fuel. You can read the full write up here on QW and see for yourself the amount of carbon deposit that was removed.
