Audi mmi update

Has anyone had their mmi updated to the latest software?i have a 2012 a7 never been updated before do anyone know how much this could cost?

I just had this done. Is your car under warranty? If so Audi has a TSB that can be completed which replaces some hardware and comes with a software update. I had this completed about two weeks ago. Basically this brings the system up to what the 2015 models have. You just have to complain of the 3G dropping to 2G a lot and/or of your phone dropping its Bluetooth connection frequently. Not sure if Audi does this TSB out of warranty or what it would cost.

My 2013 does not even display 3G anymore, just 2G. Do you happen to have the TSB #?

My car is under a 3rd party warranty now.i was quoted $499 which is a little high for just a nav update I can use my iPhone for that.

Think TSB is 2039515/4. You shouldn't need it though. Just call up, make appt, and say that your 3G is now only showing 2G. I did this and got the latest MMI version.

That's exactly what I did to get mine updated. Thanks for posting the TSB number as well as I could not find it.

When you get a chance, could you please let me know what version your MMI is running now?

My understanding is these changes took effect in MY2014 at which point the MMI hardware is different and properly supports the new AT&T frequencies. So anyone with a 2014 or newer need not try this as you will not get results, and you should have 3G anyway.

In USA cars they uses different Telit gsm module.
For example while importing from USA to EU you need to install Telit - UC864-E- AUTO - Cellular Module instead of NAM one

I was quoted $562.50 for a MMI update on my 2012 A7.

They say mine was in 400s and the latest a firmware is in 800s.

No, I did notice that now I have 2G instead of 3G all the time (but I don't really use the internet so I don't care)

if you have the 2G problem, they will replace hardware and update to latest version (v814). this should all be covered and free.

A bit more information since I just came across my paperwork from having the updates done. Two TSBs were completed: the first is 2039515/5 which is for the 5F hardware to be replaced and updated and the second is 2030465/7 which updated the MMI to 0814. I hope this helps some out.

Thanks for the information. I have a 2012 A6 3.0T as well. I think my MMI version is 0488. Did you notice anything different/better with the with software?

Yes. It now has Google Streetview which I couldn't get to pull up prior and it's easier to get to the Connect stuff in the menu now as there is an Audi Connect selection. Also the download speeds are quicker than before. I also haven't had any issues with my phone since the update.

I have an appt for Thursday to get mine updated. I mentioned the 2G and bluetooth and he said there was an update for that. Only have 9,000 miles left of warranty and glad to be getting the latest update. Thanks RRF985 for posting about your MMI getting updated.

I was in the 400s as well and after the update I noticed a new source in media and everything is a bit faster and smoother.

Having a Windows phone that won't stay connected will get you the update. A TSB tells them to update the OS for this.

For anyone who was updated - Did this clear any VAGCOM tweaks you had? Any new functionality? I'm using a T-Mobile sim in my '12 A7 and the 3G coverage in my area is great for online destinations and Google maps. Wondering if it's worth the effort.

None of my VAGCOM mods were changed.

You are correct. However Audi has published letters to owners stating that they will change the hardware if necessary due to dropping to 2g a lot since T-mobile is updating their towers. I'm not sure if Audi would give the free update for the T-mobile tower change out of warranty though. I figured I'd just mention the dropping to 2g to my dealer since I knew about the letter. They went from there.

I am hoping the firmware refresh will provide some smoother connectivity. Has anyone seen an improvement in time to connect bluetooth with their MMI updates?

My Bluetooth is worse now than before to be honest.
Not to mention that now my Spotify control doesn't work as it should (forwarding a song).

Mine is the same after as it was before. My phone connects instantly when the car is started but the transfer wait time is still the same as before.

Do they charge you for just brining your car in?

I scheduled an appointment and I only intend to go through with the MMI update should they offer it for free. I hope they don't charge just for the visit.

I also called and had them be aware of the recall notice I got and they said they'd take care of that at the same time....hopefully they feel kind and do both :).

If the reason for you coming in is a mmi "problem" then they font charge but if you go in just to get an update then they will most likely charge you.

I'm on my cpo (kicked in on THE DAY of going to the dealer) he said it's not covered by cpo but after me talking to him and asking to see if he can do something they did if free of charge.
So don't give up if they say NO

That's interesting - I was under the impression that my CPO warranty carried the same coverage as the factory warranty, with the exception of the deductible (~$80).

If your car is under warranty there will not be a charge as long as you complained about some issue and didn't just tell them to update it.

CPO does not cover MMI related to navigation or sound system. Audi pure platinum VSC does. You could get a CPO wrap that covers the things that CPO doesnt cover, but the cost of CPO plus CPO wrap is more than the cost of Audi pure platinum VSC

Correct however this is not a navigation nor sound system problem so it could very easily be argued that it should be covered.
