    BOSE Harness question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm helping my buddy fix some wiring issues. The PO for his car wired in some weird aftermarket setup and I am helping him get it back to stock. I have all the diagrams I need to do the job but I have a quick question before I dive in. So the harness that goes from the amp all the way to the front behind the radio goes into a square hole with a few other harnesses and then the ones that plug into the radio come over the top of it. They are also stuck back there so I can
t pull them out without cutting. I am not sure if they are connected to anything behind the square hole before the radio harness comes over the top of it or not. I assume that the speaker wires split off from back there and go to the doors but I am not 100% sure what is going on back there. Maybe there is something I am missing when looking at the diagram. If somebody knows what I am talking about and can explain that would be great.

EDIT: So I looked at the diagram again and I have circled the section I am confused about.

do you have a picture of what you are talking about, the plugs should all be able to be pulled out a bit from the radio opening
The bose amp is in the trunk or right rear hatch area in an avant,
The Bose uses line level from the deck to the amp then to the speakers

I think the 6 wires you circled in the pic match the six wires shown here above the "line out"

I'll get a pic next time I'm at his car. So the harness that connects to the radio goes upward back into the dash. Then you can see the harness going to the amp coming out of the square hole underneath where the radio harness goes up. So I know the amp has lines going to it from the radio and also has speaker wires coming from the amp. They all seem to jumble at this location I'm talking about. I just can't see in there well enough to see what's going on. I assume the speaker wires from the amp split out from under the dash to the doors and the radio harness lines that go to the amp go through there as well but it feels like ALL OF THEM are connected to something back there so I can't pull them all out. My next step was gonna be pull the dash. Not sure when the next time I'll be over there but probably soon lol

The dashed line circled in red, shows an EMI* shield circuit on the outside of the wires inside the dashed line. The EMI shield is connected to ground by the vertical solid brown wire labeled "133", "Ground connection in speaker wiring harness". This means the wire shielding is grounded by the brown wire shown connected to the speaker ground circuit in the wiring harness.

The EMI shield on the wires between the amp and the radio HU, can be a single shield with all the wires inside, or an individual EMI shield on each wire.

The diagram shows all the wires inside a common EMI shield.

    *EMI, Electromagnetic Interference.

The wire colors in the harness between the amp and the HU L>R, are:

    Green/White/Brown/Grey/Yellow/White.

Duuuuuude!!! Thank you!!! That is exactly the info I am looking for!!! So I am unfamiliar with EMI shields. Not sure how the wires are connected to it or if they can be removed from it to reconfigure back to stock for my buddy. I was also considering bypassing that but after reading your explanation that doesn't sound like a good idea considering that it seems to be a hub for the ground. Is the EMI shield connected to the car via the ground wire or is it connected to the car by some other means like zip tie or clip? I would like to be able to see it and study it in an attempt to not use any butt connectors on this job.

They're not connected to it. they just pass through it. Theres nothing you need to do with it.
