    Viscous Fan Pulley Thread Pattern?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was doing a timing belt job on my 2001 S4 and upon reassembly I found that the 5mm allen bolt in the viscous fan clutch would not engage the threads in the block. I’m wondering what thread pattern this is so I can get a tap/die kit + helicoil as a last resort. I know this is sort of random but if anyone has this info it would be very helpful.

    Cheers

Probably time to change the viscous fan clutch anyway, they last about as long as a timing belt.
the B5 S4 is like the mafia... there is only one way out!

just take the bolt with you to a hardware supply store. Someplace that specializes in hardware (not a home depot/lowes) will likely be able to get you a perfect match bolt, as well as tell you the thread size and pitch.

Is there another similarly sized bolt you can just test with? It would be pretty hard to mess up the thread from just removing it.

I have a used viscous fan clutch you can have for free--just reimburse me for shipping. Send PM if you want it.
