    Quick timing question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Doing the timing belt job today, rotated to line up timing mark and inserted the crank locking pin. But, the cam locking bar is off a good bit. Tried locking the cams with the bar first, but then the crank pin wont go in. Does this mean timing has been off, or done incorrectly last time, or the belt has stretched that much? Any advice? First time doing this job, so sorry for the newbie question.

How many miles on the current set up? Could be a combo of age and previous set up. Don't worry about it and replace everything.

I don't think it's an issue, just wanted to make sure it's not offset for any reason being a stage 3. I plan on just taking everything off and replacing back to where it should be with the cam locking bar. Correct thinking?

Some combination of belt stretch and possibly timing not spot on last time it was done. A lot of hacks think you can do the belt without the bar/lock pin/popping sprockets free.

Make sure you pre-tension the belt according to Bentley before tightening the sprockets. Turn the motor over by hand a couple revolutions and check that the lock bar still goes in. I had to reinsert the lock pin and pop the sprockets again.
