    ECU: vehicle speed signal

Hi, I'm looking for an info, how ECU is getting vehicle speed. On the internet I found several versions and not sure which is correct.

    1. Directly from ABS sensor.
    2. From physical vehicle speed sensor (G22)
    3. From instrument cluster.

Is there a difference between diesel and gasoline ECU's for this situation?

It depends on the year. 02-03 i believe have vehicle speed sensors at the tranny output where as the later years relied on wheel speed sensors

Yep. '02 and early '03 used a sensor above and to the front of the drivers side front drive axle. From late '03 on the signal comes from the left front ABS sensor.

Continuing this topic: I have '02 model with speed sensor at tranny output, tried to look on Elsa and cannot find how speed signal reaches ECU. Diagram shows that wire from G22 sensor goes to Instrument cluster T32a/5, but nothing about ECU wiring.
I've found ECU pinout on Autodata (not sure how accurate it is) it says that pin 20 is for vehicle speed signal, but can I add direct wire from T32a/5 pin from Instrument cluster?

The problem is that ECU cannot detect vehicle speed signal. Instrument cluster or climate control unit detecting speed without problems.
