Hey guys, looking to get a spare key for my 2007 RS4, any suggestions on where to get one besides Audi? Also can i set the key myself or does everything need to be done at the dealer? Thanks in advanced

Unfortunately dealership is your only option. I ordered a new one two weeks ago and wasn't too bad. I want to say $160ish? I was expecting well north of $200. You bring your registration or title to the dealer and they order a new key from Audi NA. It's been two weeks for me and I haven't heard anything so I don't know how long it actually takes.

What would you do with the uncut key? Any locksmith can cut a key, but thats only half of it. The chip in the key still has to be coded to the car which I think can only be done by Audi NA. Based on my experience, I think if you took an uncut key to the dealer, they wouldn't be able to do anything with it. If I'm wrong though, let me know

Relearning the key fob is a pretty simple process, iirc it is put the key in and accessory on, hold unlock (or maybe it is lock) for like 5 or 10 seconds and then turn the ignition off.

FWIW, it usually takes 3 business days for most US dealerships to obtain a cut key from Audi once an order has been placed. I'm sure there are some remote locations that may take longer. Current MSRP for a cut master key w/remote is $148.00(part#8E0-837-220-R-INF). Immobilizer coding is obviously extra...our dealership charges ~$50.

so is this something that can be done through vcds or does it HAVE to be done at the stealership?

Thats not bad, actually, my old 2001 Passat with a sidecut imob key cost $200 for the key and $75 for coding at the VW dealer, in 2008. Glad to see pricing go down for once!

With the right software, you can pull the security code and code your own keys... Not for n00bs though.

Dealer key programming isn't too bad, if that's all you need done. About $130.

Yea I was expecting $200+ I've had the car for about a year and am a DIY kind of guy so I was fairly happy with my first dealership experience. I still maintain that your average person (sorry if I'm a "n00b") can't do it without dealer interaction, which is honestly a good thing. We've come a long way from the "who wants my 95 accord" days.

That's just for the remote lock/unlock if the fob forgets the radio frequency if I'm not mistaken. At least that's how I got my spare to work after i changed the batteries.
