Is there a way to sync the temperature for both sides (driver / passenger)?

Yes. When the temps are different hold on to the auto button for a few seconds and it will sync with the drivers side temp.

In my Q5, press and hold the middle of the driver side temperature knob. Might be different for the S3 as fhwang said.
