    Is 60k Just Too Much...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello out there...

Found a very nice "1" Owner 2007 RS4 that is otherwise perfect. However it has 60k on the clock.

I've owned two 4.2 S4s. One of which was a nightmare. That one being a car I picked up with 69k miles on it.

Am I in for the same thing here with this car? I know the RS4s are built in a different facility by different technicians but we're still talking a near 10 year AUDI.

    What say you?

im sure the other guys will chime in with similar answers but 60k is not bad at all if the key maintenance has all been done. look for things like how many carbon cleans have been performed, have the brakes been done, suspension DRC recall done (is it leaking anywhere), control arms should be done at this point already etc.

i find that if these cars are owned by enthusiasts and well cared for, 60k is not a lot by any means.

i would also highly recommend a PPI with a compression test and maybe get the cylinder walls looked at

Just picked up a 95k mile example. These are higher maintenance cars (DRC, Carbon cleans) But less prone to catastrophic failures a'la the timing chain failures in the "regular" 4.2s. The PPI is always a good idea, but I would not worry about 60k miles. At first I thought the asking price was 60K and I was about to tell you thats way too high! lol

I just picked one up with 38k miles on the clock, two previous owners. I'm new to the RS4 - can someone expand on the suspension DRC recall and control arms (issue?) mentioned above? I'll also do a search to see what I find.

the DRC is the dynamic ride control for our cars. it tends to have some leaks and audi released a recall for the entire DRC system which most RS4s have gone through. its important to make sure (if you plan on staying on stock DRC suspension) that there are no leaks when you buy it, maintaining/repairing the DRC system is a pain in the ass and the system can only be recharged by Audi dealerships. The control arm bushings are known to fail with time and heavy use, check the rubber bushings on your front control arms (sometimes the car will make a clunk noise going over bumps at low speeds) and if they are cracked, you will have to replace the arms or get new bushings pressed in.

the major issue though is Carbon buildup. carbon cleans should be done every 30-40k (this can vary). neglecting such an issue can be costly and can lead to other problems later on. injectors on our cars are about $100 per one.

Thanks for the explanation. PPI from Audi dealer didn't indicate any issues with DRC or control arm bushings but I will check if there is a recall for them for my car (I assume they would have already told me this during the PPI). During the next oil change I plan on getting them to look and see if it needs a carbon clean. Car seems to run fine, at least during the test drive. I pick it up later today.

oh congratz! yea generally with only 38k you wont NEED a carbon clean and audi simply denies the fact that these cars have heavy carbon buildup so they will likely say that it needs no such thing. but if you get the carbon clean done you will notice it will free up a noticeable amount of power. if it has never had a carbon clean done ever, i would highly recommend one even if you have to pay for it yourself

60k is still baby miles for this car. There're plenty of RS4s with well over 100k mark and are as healthy as they can be. RS4 engine is completely different than that of S4, much more stout and doesn't have same issues as BHFs. Do a PPI, service records and buy one, it's a joy.

Not at all. There really aren't that many RS4's left with less than that anyway.

If the car is well-maintained, I wouldn't hesitate to get one with 60k miles.

I bought a 2007 with 115k miles, runs like a champ, who ever owned it before took excellent care, high mileage don't scare me. But after owning 3 audi's and 4 bmw's in the past 15 years I will have to say by experience from 70k-100k miles they do drain your bank account.

Thank you very much everyone. Unfortunately, someone else got her...this morning.

I was going to make the 5 hour drive to get her on Wednesday.

Guess I should have gave them a deposit. So, someone out there snagged a good one.

I do see RS4s for sale with less miles...way less at times. However they want a fortune for it.

There is an RS4 for sale in the UK with 221,739 miles. I would say 60k is just getting broken in.

they are different from the S4. but still are recaros. apparantly the US seats are more comfy then euro ones but obviously the euro ones look better :s especially in red!!

few things different in euro vs NA model: seats, steering wheel, front bumper, and i think wheels?

euro also had a lower ride height option available too

Except in the UK where 19" was standard and 18" was the option.

Because AoA didn't want to pay the cost of getting US approvals for the bucket seats (as they are called this side of the pond), which as they are only fitted to the RS4 would be a siignificant cost per vehicle.

You can get a set of these MUCH cheaper than 7k these days. That's double than what one could get these here after all expenses. Hardest part is finding a seller who wouldn't mind shipping to US and arranging shipping.

Yeah. The ceramics required the 19" rims due to 280mm rotors etc etc.

We have a number of customer cars (stock and supercharged) between 85k and 120k (and one that's in the 130k's). As long as you stay up with maintenance, the only common "faults" seem to be the knock sensors and the starters (and increasingly, the oil cooler lines, but due to the rust, it may be a salt belt thing). Just find a well maintained example and enjoy it.

Indeed, just replaced the stater. When I under the car, the oil pan is bone dry, not even a single oil wet spot.

Drive just installed the Forge oil cooler kit for me this past week. Much less expensive than OEM lines and cooler.

It was something the Audi PPI missed. I should've taken it to an Indy like Drive instead of the dealer for PPI -- they noticed it right away.
