    S3 Map Update Issues

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've been trying to update the map in my S3. I downloaded the California map update on my MacBook Pro running El Capitan, and have tried to open it many times but I keep getting the error: "remote server communication error - code [404]."

Can anybody resolve this issue? I would like to update but I cannot figure out this seemingly simple process.

You to download the desired map the directly to your SD card, not to your mac, then insert it to S3 and install. Should be easy.

I've downloaded the 7kb Java file onto my desktop, but when I open it, it doesn't let me download the full file.

Where you able to actually download the map? I had a similar issue when I tried to download the maps.
The Java applet was running and when it tried to connect I got a 'server not connected' error. There I was no download going on. The appled tried to reconnect like once a minute. I let it run through the night and no luck.
Then I just retried a couple of days later and suddenly it worked. I downloaded all 15.5 GB onto my PC. Then onto the SD card.
When tried to upload the map into the MMI according the procedure in the manual it did not work at first. I had to reset the MMI (SD card inserted) and once the MMI rebooted it started the update process. Be aware, that took almost an hour...
    I hope that helped...

Well it is now connecting to the server, and asking for my login credentials. I have entered in my login information many times and it wont accept it. Any way around this??

Not sure what you mean, I just double checked. Using the my.audi.com website with your vin number should not need a login for the java applet. You only need to login into the website (assuming you registered to that website). I just tried to download a map and it worked right away.

I have also encountered both issues ("remote server communications..." and asking for login credentials) over the past few days when trying to download the update. I've figured out why it asks for login credentials....the download seems to be good for a limited time. After that time is up, it asks for login credentials and won't ever log you in. To fix this you'll need to download the "downloader-xxxxx.jnlp" file again, and you shouldn't be prompted for login credentials when running it. You'll notice if you download it multiple times the number at the end changes - this is probably how they keep track of which ones are still valid.

I think the reason entering your myaudi login credentials doesn't seem to work is the downloader is trying to authenticate you with some German Audi site, and possibly it doesn't share the same database. I found this when looking through some logs that are written when it fails.

I figured out the reason for needing the login credentials myself, the same reason that you described. Luckily, after about 12 tries on different days it finally worked! Seems like you gotta just keep trying until it allows you to download.

    Thanks for your help

Is there any way to find out if the maps are up to date? All I see in my.audi is complete maps or regional based.

Bumping this thread. I've been trying for weeks using my Macbook air. I've used both Safari and chrome in El Capitan. I've booted into windows using VMware and used Chrome and IE. No luck. Sometimes it asks me for login credentials, other times it gives me the same message Kevin got, "remote server communication error - code [404]." Audi technical support says its a Mac issue and can't provide help. Any suggestions?

Could be a Java issue since its a Java applet? I had to try a few days later until it worked...

I actually tried it on various PC's, but it never worked. I just tried every day on my MacBook Pro and it eventually work. I know it is a awful solution, and not the one I'd be looking for if I was having trouble, but that's all I can say.
    Don't give up!

Ugh. I tried again last night using Windows on VMWare on my Macbook Air. I actually got it to work. Unfortunately I saved it to the wrong disk and ran out of space. Since then I haven't been able to connect again. Why does Audi make a simple file download so difficult?

Finally got it to work. Uploaded the data to my A3 this morning, got the confirmation after about 90 minutes that the install was successful.
