    ECU Serial Number for Automatic/Manual

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

I have to replace the ECU in my 1999 A4 2.8 and I was wondering how to tell by the serial number if the ECU is automatic or manual. The sticker with the serial number is removed from my ecu.

I am searching on Ebay and I want to make sure so I don't have to reprogram it. Thanks

You need to look for an ecu that is already coded for an automatic then. Pretty sure the ECU's are the same part number but I could be wrong.

Call the dealer with your vin and ask for the part number for the ecu. Then you will know for sure.

What is the number on your current ECU?

I might have a spare laying around.

Correct, a manual or automatic ecu can easily be coded with vagcom to work with either transmission.
