    Downpipe Questions

Search has failed to unconfuse me...
I have the AWE cat back. Later I had an hfc installed but with too many cel issues and not wanting to deal with it all, I went back to stock.
But I loved the sound, and would like to get a little of that back so considering a downpipe.

    1. Is install easier than HFC? I couldn't manage the HFC myself but would like to attempt the DP install, especially if it's done just from underneath the car. Anyone install a DP?
    2. Does it matter which one I get? I know they don't add power, just some sound. So would something like the CTS dp be basically the same as the AWE dp?

    TIA!

I'm not certain on the degree of difficulty for install. I'd imagine it should be considerably easier than the HFC but I've never personally installed one.

The AWE DP is resonated, whereas the CTS DP is not. That is the only difference between the two.

The tougher part of the install is the turbo nuts and the spring bracket. A downpipe is still going to have those same connections and won't do more to avoid cel than an HFC would, if the DP had a low cell cat.

Did you have a spacer on the HFC second O2 sensor?

Both of these DP's are the lower portion only (without cats) - mounting up to the OEM cat.

Oh. That's pretty easy then. Just three nuts and a slip joint.

Ok cool, so I can just put the car up on ramps and go at it from there? Nuts easy to reach?

Thanks for pointing out the non-res... missed that.
I want more grunt when on the gas, but don't want any drone when cruising. The awe cat back with the HFC was great, still no drone but sounded awesome.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but on the CTS website they say "substantial power gains" with their downpipe. That's BS right?

I have a CTS downpipe. I would not buy it again, given the option. It didn't fit correctly when I first got it. It was contacting the transmission. They wouldn't refund it because I had installed it. I sent it back to be fixed. It was re-welded, but still didn't fit properly. I ended up having a local shop weld it another time. It fits now, but looks like crap from being cut and welded so many times. No drone, but it wasn't worth the headache. No power gains, substantial or otherwise.
