Sorry to put a bug of paranoia in your ear, but Eurocode pulley is defective

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've had this pulley for about 18 months and have been very happy. My car is at the dealer getting the timing chain, etc. replaced and the Eurocode pulley has a pronounced groove worn in it from obvious contact with the seal or lower timing chain cover. I spoke with Eurocode about this today and they acknowledged this as being an issue they've seen and said that it had to do with Audi making revisions to the seal or cover. I have a 2008 build, MY 2009 and this is the original cover and seal. There was no comment or discussion about retooling their specs so that it doesn't create this issue.

I just wanted to share my story because I can't even imagine the catastrophe that could happen if the pulley lost its contact with the gears inside.

Needless to say I'm really disappointed in this happening so quickly and their apparent lack of owning up to this. I've had the car for two years and I have put 24,000 miles on it so within 18 months maybe I put 18,000 - 20,000 miles on the Eurocode pulley.

This pic is from the dealer. They asked if I had a warranty!!!

Nearly everyone I've seen on here with this pulley has complained about problems with their front seals constantly leaking oil or just repeatedly blowing out altogether, starting sometimes immediately after installing this pulley and ending the moment they switch back to stock.

Boggles my mind that you can still buy one on their site.

All it would take was a retooling of their specs and they could make this thing work unbelievable they haven't done that.

Same exact thing happened to me, constant evap leak codes from the engine seal. I swapped it out for the fluidampr pulley and all is well.

It looks like the sealing surface is not hardened like it should be, so I guess the black coating is just phosphating or similar which doesn't increase the surface hardness.

The Eurocode pulley is aluminum....factory pulley is steel...guess which material is harder?

Any other pulleys out there that others have used without issue? The car feels like it lost 30-50 ft lbs at low rpms.

Uh oh. I've had one of these for almost 2 years. It doesn't look like it's easy to check if I have a groove or not though...

No, there is no daylight there. It has to come off to see.

So from what I gather is that the best LW pulley to get would be the Fluidampr pulley, too bad its 371$. Curious on the difference between the CTS one and the Fluidampr as they look like different sizes. Has anyone heard of problems with either of these pulley's? CTS pulley is 200$ yields as stated 5-7hp, Fluidampr one 371 yields "Gains of 9-20whp and 10-25ft/lbs. torque depending on your current setup" this is a big difference in performance. What kinda puzzles me is that the CTS pulley looks lighter than the Fluidampr one. One have thoughts on which pulley theyre going to replace their EC with? I'm planning on doing my swap when I do the EFR kit and some internals.

Edit: CTS is on sale for 169$ less than half the price of the Fluidampr.

Front seal leak here, too (I'd say after about 5-10k miles of use). Dealer replaced front seal under warranty if I agreed to have stock pulley reinstalled. I called EC about the issue, but at the time they hadn't heard of any other users having similar problems. This, of course, was not long after they first introduced the pulley.

So obviously I'd know if I had a seal leak right? Oil would be dripping under my car?

Yep... it was very obvious on my garage floor.

EDIT: Not like a puddle of oil, but there were several drops that came off the under belly cover. When I pulled the cover, there was a good amount of oil that had pooled on the cover.
