I replaced my thermostat, I got the thermostat on eBay it's a Behr, genuine OEM part for $63.25 free shipping. I was surprised how much air was trapped in there after the replacement, just hold your coolant overflow up high and keep the bleeders open refill and repeat, run the motor up to temperature and refill and bleed until no more air comes out.http://m.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Coolant...d=645907916021 ...I also replaced the coolant coupler that attaches to the back of the head with the hose that goes to the heater core. Turns out if you replace the coupler your self and tighten your band clamp too much you can actually squish the compressed glass fibers that it's made out of. Which is what happened to me, it actually got out of round. I thought the o-ring had gone bad, so I reach down past the catalytic and suffered to remove the o-ring one handed with a host pick. The o-ring and the plastic washer that rides before it inside the coupler came out together, the o-ring was flattened out. The plastic washer is not supposed to come out of the coupler, it was about 13 bucks. http://m.ebay.com/itm/COOLING-HOSE-Q...=1231634165014 I also bought a genuine Volkswagen oil level sensor for 16 bucks. http://m.ebay.com/itm/OE-Sump-Oil-Le...=1679772211012. And while I was at it I went ahead and jerry rig the hood sensor so I could use my alarm again.
