Headlight switch and alarm tone when the door is open with the lights on

Does anyone know how the car triggers the alarm tone that the lights are on when the door is opened? Such as when you park and forget to turn off the headlights.

My car does not make this tone anymore. I checked fuses but can't seem to find a blown one. My headlight switch is a bit fubar'ed and is a huge PITA to remove. I'm wondering if the switch itself somehow triggers the alarm and I need to replace the switch?

    Thanks for any ideas.

in older Auids the speaker was in a relay. Not sure if in a b6 the speaker is in the custer or a relay.

    Someone will chime in.

Apparently there is a speaker in the cluster that burns out over time. Mine is done for and I dont get the warning any more. I am pretty good with my lights though, and I looked at my car a few times as I'm walking about from it so I catch the issue of leaving the lights on.

You can use SpeedoSolutions to fix your speaker, or tackle it yourself if you're decent with soldering.

Oh, well that's annoying. I am good at soldering but not really interested in taking out or taking apart the cluster, I'll just deal with the lack of chime.

The strangest things seem to break on Audis lol.

    Thanks for the help.

    2 screws to remove cluster
    4 screws to open cluster
    $3.53 for a new speaker

This is one of the easier cheaper repairs. Especially if you have the soldering skills. Check this out: DIY-Repair-Broken-quot-Buzzer-Chime
