Sepang Blue -- what are your thoughts?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
At first, I liked it. After the initial impression, though, it seems to scream 'boy racer, garish, look at me'.

I want to like it, and am considering it for my next color (in the S3). Does anybody else feel this way??

I had a chance to get sepang and chose black instead. I felt the blue would be a cop magnet. I like daytona grey also.

My car is Sepang blue. Look at me, maybe, but in no way does it convey a boy racer or garish image (unless you really lower the car or, god forbid, bag it). Love it.

Boy racer? No man! Unless you have a giant winged spoiler maybe but that would be in any color. It's a nice aggressive color for the S3 and it really brings out the sexy lines of the car. The other colors are nice as well but your car will meld into the sea of other black, white or gray cars.

I've always been a fan of blue cars. I mean a true, proper blue...not LSB or smurf blues. My 1998 M3 in Estoril Blue was a stunner...every time I laid eyes on her. I am equally excited to see Sepang Blue as I open the garage door each morning. If you are truly a fan of the color, you'll be disappointed by anything else. Rain or shine, Sepang owns it.

I had the choice between a sepang, glacier, and monsoon all having the equipment I wanted plus a few extra. The dealer actually had two sepang blues; one being the performance pkg and the other being black optics. I really liked all three colors on the S3 and I knew I wouldnt have gone wrong with either one, but coming from an A4 in monsoon already I knew i didn't want the same color and the white just didn't have that "take a second look at me" look to it like the sepang. Everyone who has looked at my car have all said what a great color sepang is and I have even seen one of my customers at work who is a cop and just picked up a 2016 M3 say if he had of seen sepang in person he would have gone with the S4 over the M3 due to the color.

Soooo at the end of the day it really comes down to what you want and what you like. Everyone here is going to be biased, all those who got sepang are going to say go for it and all those who didnt are going to say why they didnt. Best thing for you to do is go to your dealership and look at any color which you think you could live with and narrow it down that way.

Thanks for the input. I was at the dealer today, and saw the grey and black colors. I've seen the sepang in pictures, but not in person. First impression is 'wow'. Makes me want to look again. But... can't help but think if it is too flashy.

Wanted to hear some other opinions to dispel/validate my thoughts.

I'll try going to another dealer and see it in-person.

IMHO pictures really do not fully give off the amazing color sepang is

IMO it's not too flashy and great looking, I was set on getting sepang blue until I saw a glacier white one.

also, every other s3 owner has a sepang..makes me glad i didn't go with it
I agree with most of that!
however, if ten guys with an S3 walk into a bar, I'd say there are 4 sepang, 3 white, and 3 "other color" in the parking lot.
it's basically an r8 color, given to us for a fraction of the price of the special color pallet.
I don't think this will be the case forever.

I was thinking of the same thing, but decided the color is still worth owning. Yes, I do believe it is a shade boy-racer. But the flip side trumps that. So many other more expensive and sporty cars come in this shade, it makes the S3 look greater than it is. Also factor in, a color that is flashy enough to capture the attention of others, means it will likely capture your attention longer than another color. The excitement and uniqueness of grays, whites, and blacks will wear off a bit quicker. All these things stack up for the blue.
In conclusion, I think it's worth it. However, expect to stand out a few notches more to the police, so drive accordingly. That can be a good thing too- going out of your way to drive more cautiously.
Lastly, I expect this color to be discontinued very soon. Audi has rarely kept their sport blue in production for more than a few years before replacing it with something else. When the S3 gets facelifted next year, I'd guess it will get the new Ara Blue from the new S4.

    I love my Sepang

If you want to go something a little special, go Sepang, then have it wrapped in Xpel Stealth. Now that is different. Ive only seen one other car with this, and if I could afford it, its what I would do to mine.

Here is a link to a forum member who has done this to his Sepang S6. The pictures are at the bottom of page 2. Stunning.

I almost got Sepang, I think it is an amazing color. The only reason I didn't is because I also have a Deep Blue Pearl R32 and the colors are pretty similar. I went with Monsoon Grey to change it up.

I put my order in for a Sepang s3 last week, I saw the color in person before I ordered. I personally never thought I would buy a blue car but I loved the color so much. Most cars on the road today are bland colors and I wanted something that stood out from the sea of silver, black and white out there. All the colors choices for the s3 look pretty good on it IMO.

Yea, I also understand that Sepang will be a popular or common color for fellow S3 owners but I've only seen 1 s3 in my area driving around town anyway.

The deep purple that Sepang transforms into at night is my favorite part of the color. Like others I never thought I would find myself in a blue car, but saw Sepang in person and really fell for it. Went from Tornado Gray to Sepang and couldn't be happier.

Yea, I am really leaning this way. Don't worry Sepang'ers... none in my area.

It is the only color that gets me excited to look at it. Plus... I always get white or black. Always. Sick of it.

    Thanks!

Sepang is a beautiful color ! I have not seen an S3 in any color that I didn't like. I have seen all of the colors except the brown that was offered in 2015.

We try to keep cars a long time, we have an 07 Mustang in Alloy Grey a very dark grey that looks black at night. If Daytona would have been available, I think that would have been our choice. We ended up with Glacier, we also own a daily driver 1997 Lexus ES300 that will be 20 years old on February 5th. It is white and has sat outdoors in Michigan winters for 20 years. I am pretty fanatical on maintenance, the white still looks like new. Folks are always asking if its a re-paint. One thing about white is I think it holds up pretty well over time. Plus I think it contrast nicely with both chrome and black trim.

I love the Sepang. I typically play it really safe with car colors (silver, white, etc...), but when I went to test drive the S3 at the dealer, it was a Sepang blue one, and I immediately changed my mind and ordered the blue.

It was a Sepang Blue S3 that caught my eye and caused me to look at the S3 as a car for me. I love the blue, but I am an older guy and do a lot of driving and for me, the blue was to bright. I ordered Monsoon Gray to be more low profile on the road. Love the Sepang Blue though.
