In my years of riding on coilovers for the VW/Audi chassis, I have used the following:

    - KSport
    - Koni
    - H&R
    - Bilstein
    - KW
    - Solowwerks

"Best" street coilovers is very subject so you'll get varied opinions. In my experience, I believe Bilstein's bar none, are the "best" coilovers you can get for under $2K. Sure, you can buy more expensive ones, but it becomes an ROI debate at that point.
Based on your requirements: 1- Bilstein (used ones since new are over 2k), 2- tie between Koni and H&R (because the Konis are adjustable rebound/dampening, H&Rs are not), then the rest...

I'll agree with zcspec. All listed are great. I've had H&R before and they were great. Stasis, which were fine on the track, but not-so-great on the street. I have Bilstein PSS9s and I think compete with systems twice their price and have a great all-around capability to them. I'm running those now.

I did exhaustive research and digging before I bought my H&R premium coilovers from a forum member. They were brand new and I paid under a grand shipped, I also replaced all the control arms, 034 upper strut mounts, and hardware at the same time. If you don't know when the control arms were last replaced, I recommend doing this at the same time along with the 034 density line upper strut mounts.

I have them set pretty low, and they are amazing. Great ride handling balance, well damped, and have a proven history of being reliable. I can't see how they can be beat for a street setup, especially for the price I got them for honestly, it transformed the car from my old worn out Konis.

I vote Vogtlands. I love them, ask anyone who knows me, they will tell you I sound like a broken record. You don't need to spend a lot of money to get decent stuff, but there is also a lot of crap out there.

If we are being completely honest, I would avoid the solowerks, we have been less pleased with them as time has passed. (About 10k on them now)

Sts are fine, no real complaints.

Only real problem I have had with Vogtlands was a bit of noise after I installed a set on a B7 (Installer error)

H&R is good stuff, running some springs on a C6 and they are great. Im probs going to test of set of Bilstein pss9s next.

Megan is now also making crap for us, no idea how good they are, would avoid FK products. also JOM

If you have to ask about Raceland, I will know you haven't done your homework.

I was going to ask about sts.

I ran hr/bilstein on my old s4. Not coilovers. It was too low for me. I'll keep doing research.

I love my BCracing - So much better than my old ST's - and any spring/strut combo I've had. Be sure to check them out.

Care to elaborate on this particular noise and what caused it?

I'm down to either BC racing coilovers ($1400aud) or Vogtlands (around the same once i factor in exchange rate and shipping).

I've had Stasis S/S (Koni), Bilstein PSS9, and some older H&Rs.

I think my favorites are PSS9s. Dampening is easy to set and they ride well. The Streetsports were nice, but dampening adjustment was difficult. The older H&Rs (no idea which version) were way too soft.

It was late in the install, I was torquing down the bolts. I did one and then did it again instead of the next bolt. So I had one loose bolt and one over tight bolt. It's a lesson in not working tired. I re checked it all and did it correctly and the problem was solved. That being said I think it's really important to make sure you torque the bushings bolts correctly and with load on the suspension.

Currently running PSS9's, love them. Used to run the Bilstein Sport/H&R combo and it was okay, rode nice but the springs a bit too soft.

I've driven a car with STs, not bad. H&R is a bit harsher in my opinion but nothing unbearable. They're nice. BC makes decent stuff. Although I haven't experienced them personally in a B5 S4, I've driven a WRX (quite hard) with BCs and loved them. Great bang for the buck.

Mine came with H&R's.. not sure which model but they ride very well. Handle corners great, not too bumpy. For the 2 years I have owned the car I still have yet to replace my strut mounts so I have a great clunk on the drivers side blew my lower rear control arm bushing too so that sucks. Squeaks like a mofo.. plan to do suspension overhaul this summer. But yeah, I like my H&R's

Yeah, H&Rs (at least the premium version) are fairly stiff but still reasonably forgiving. You do feel every undulation, bump and crack and is definitely not floaty. My parents hate stiff and loud cars, and they didn't complain after taking them to LA once which has shit roads.
