i got a 2012 Audi a6.... and noticed that it started to leak coolant every so often... basically in about 1 year i had to refill the tank about once....

i also noticed that it only ends up LEAKING when driving above 80 miles an hour.... usually...

Took it to the mechanic and he said he think its the head gasket.... okay.... well we swapped the head gasket... no more coolant leak everything is fine, but i get this engine malfunction...

NO ISSUES with the engine, No issues with timing, starts have no issues, no noises, nothing... just this error.. noticed it comes on after like 10 starts.. WHEN its cold...

any ideas? ANYONE?

Base on a little google search and since your head casket was repaired, it would appear that the timing chain is incorrectly installed.

Each cam has a phaser with up to 42 degrees of adjustment, so if one cam was a tooth off its feasible that the adjuster could compensate for this until it needs to go to one extreme where its range would be limited causing the cold start timing not reached error.

Why would you need a sensor if the timing is off? Sounds like he needs to fix his work from the previous engagement.

I was just saying that it could be possible for the timing to be off on one cam without running bad all the time. The mechanic needs to verify that it was properly put back together since it seems suspicious for it to have a new problem show up after tearing the engine apart to replace the head gasket. I agree with turbello, I don't know why a sensor would need to be replaced. I would want some solid evidence that a sensor is the problem before spending $1300 to try and see if it is. Good luck!

As others have said I doubt it is the sensor. The static timing for that cam was probably not correctly, i.e. off by a tooth. Not enough to make the engine run poorly except under cold start conditions.
