I would get the manual, just so I don't have to look at that terrible shifter in the automatic everytime

I hear it's only on FWD models, no quattro/manual combo.

I sort of get that logic, but to me, it's seems logical that the manual appeals to the core group, so manual/quattro is more logical. The manual at this point really is an enthusiast choice. I'm not sure I'd know of a more disappointing combination.

So, does anybody know for sure whether a manual transmission will be offered on the B9? Several car mags have said, yes, later this year. I had my B8 in for service last week at the local Audi dealer, and although they were stoked about the 2017 that the had just seen as pre-release, the understanding there was that no, it's not gonna happen. I find it odd that nobody seems to know, this late in the game. It's a deal-breaker for me, so if I know it's not going to happen, for sure, I'll go ahead and look and place an order for a 340i. Love Audis, but I can't abide with automatic transmissions, no matter how slick and fast they are these days. Anybody know for certain?

They might come out with a special version for US but looking at ROW you can only get the 252 with S tronic, with or w/o quattro. Manual is limited to engines below 190hp. To bad since that manual is a peach with a wonderful mechanical feeling to it.

One of the sources here for Canada had a list of coming cars till 2018, the manual A4 was one of them. Didn't say Quattro though on his info
Post is deleted now though :(

On a lark, I just contacted/emailed "Audi" via their AudiUSA website. Don't know if the system just shuffles the email to the nearest dealer, but I thought it couldn't hurt to at least register that there are some enthusiasts out here for whom the question matters! I'll post if I get a meaningful response.

Here's an article about the 2017 B9 A4 from Autoblog:
All A4 models will launch, initially, with the seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission, but a manual is still under consideration for the US. Better yet, the manual may be available with Quattro all-wheel drive (which is standard on the S-tronic launch models). Sadly, we don't have any word, or even hints, whether that manual may become available in the American-spec Allroad.
So, all is not lost. There is still hope!

So I had a back and forth email exchange with an "Audi Digital and Social Media Advocate, Audi CXC"... directed there from the AudiUSA website. First, she let me know Audi will release the 2017 A4 in the USA with a 6mt "later this year," and then she added it will only be available on the 2.0t engine, which was confusing to me, since I thought that was the only engine available. Anyway, I wrote back asking whether the rumors about FWD getting MTs were true, and when a person could place an order. Her reply included...

"The 2017 Audi A4 with a manual transmission will be equipped with Quattro. The tentative time frame when customers will be able to order the vehicle is quarter one of 2017."

So, there you have it. That's the best "from the source" info I've been able to run down. Not sure I want to wait 10 months for the possibility of ordering a 6mt... which means BMW may get my business on account of timing... and road feel.... even if the interior on the new A4 seems pretty amazing.

I'd stock it out. 10 months isn't so bad

    Sad to hear that.

A couple of thoughts from other posts:

    1) It shouldn't be too surprising that the manual will come only with the 2.0t, It's a driveline that's already certified for sale in the US.

    2) I remember reading that the A4 was rumored to come with a TDI... (that was until last year...) But E-Tron is certainly possible.

    3) VW group has gotten increasingly strange in the last few years with market specific offerings. Based on other companies blurbs (especially BMW), it's become apparent that the strategy for expensive cars is to offer no manuals after the entry level market.

I'm glad someone from Audi is confirming a manual, quattro. I can wait a year for the new one. I don't want to, but I can.

Which is ironic considering current MT A4 quattro is gear fro fuel efficiency and not performance. That new interior isnt doing it for me. I've had 5 Audis since 1984.........with no A5/S5 on the horizon, i think I'm done

A5/S5 (which is what I'm waiting for) is set for next year, along with the TT-RS. It's on their roadmaps.
