I have a 2004 1.8t quattro 6spd avant. on December 3rd I was hit, on December 4th I was hit again. The car has dents on every door and a dented tailgate and yesterday the hatch broke for the 2nd time. I have a job that requires me to drive a lot and I just don't feel like it's worth putting anymore time, effort or money into the car :(

Looking at relpacing it with an A3 or a b8 avant

Well have fun. I love the b6 platform but do feel I need another newer stock car. Lol. 2.0 stroker/ gt 3076 isn't the best to rely on for a DD! Lol

Maybe defensive driving lessons are in order? lol

sorry man, i feel your pain. I took a turn a little too wide one time and tapped the fender off a dirt embankment. 3 days after had a deer commit suicide into the other fender.

But if all your doors and stuff are messed up. look for a blown up one somewhere or try Car-part.com

... or rid yourself of the problem altogether and sell/donate it or even part it out but the p/o is a lot of time and labor as well.

    ^^ he was joking.

I'm a big fan of the A3's though. If it were possible to get a quattro + 6mt A3 of any kind I would be all over them. I'm assuming you could swap a golf R/R32/R36 manual drivetrain in, but thats not the same.

Regarless The A3s are nice but consider a GTI. Much better bang for your buck.

Agreed the A3 needs a QMT but vs doing a swap why not pick up a golf R not sure what that price looks like vs B8 a4 cant be to far off. only down side to a GTI would be no AWD.

Sorry to hear about your car sad to see a B6 go.

I m aware of the thread u were referring to as I was the OP. It looked like it was a dig at me since I said people like to throw techno margins around and diagnosticator took offense to it. But whatever. Just words on a screen. Have a nice day.

That would be the obvious better step I suppose. I personally really like the Golf R and how its a bit understated, but I know its not to everyone's tastes. The A3 is a more "mature" looking car though. The R still is a bit too young and boy racery (just a bit but its still there).

I don’t believe that Diagnosticator took offense to your statement at all! If you go back and re-read his response again I think you will get that. He is an extremely detailed thinker and his posts reflect that. In typical Diagnosticator fashion he gave a detailed response to your "technical jargon" comment. And I love every bit of it!

Gonzo just got a chuckle (as did I) with Diag’s one word response. It’s just not something you see every day.

I agree, the A3 is not a real Audi since the engine is transverse, and the rest of the car is mostly a VW Jetta/Golf platform. In this case getting a VW instead of an A3 will save money on purchase.

This post is just to clear the air. I intended no ill will in any of these posts. I do think I see where you are coming from so I'll clarify my intent a bit.

The "OP, that sucks" in this post was me telling seanentrust that I feel for him after he told us his Avant was in a couple minor crashes in two consecutive days.

The first part about diagnosticator limiting the scope etc. was exactly as old guy said, we are used to him posting extremely detailed answers as discussed in your idle chit chat thread and to see him post a one-word reply made me laugh.

nitronutz, your idle chit chat thread captured exactly how I've often felt while researching a particular repair on the B6 platform. I find myself reading some of these detailed posts multiple times to fully understand the response. And you are right, the B6 is a sophisticated beast. For every new repair I tackle, I do way more research than I ever did before. And I own a 3.0. If I ever get a 1.8, I'll have that learning curve to climb. But, as you pointed out, thanks to these guys the info-filled posts will be waiting to help.

I hope that helps clear up any misunderstandings. If not, please let me know. Peace.

So, back to the original post - seanentrust, why not just drive the car? Yeah, fix the hatch, but if the door dents are just cosmetic, leave 'em. This minimizes your time, effort and money.

Can't justify putting another $500-1000 into it. It's currently for sale because I bought this last night
