    Cam Follower Replacement Question - Relieving Fuel Pressure

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    I'm about to replace the cam follower on my 2.0T 2006 Audi A4 B7 and have a fairly simple question that I cannot find the answer to.

    1) How do I relieve the fuel pressure in the HPFP?

    Before I get blasted, I have read the instructions on this link, http://freepdfhosting.com/8791e81dac.pdf, but they are a bit confusing.

    Here is what the instructions state:

    Before proceeding, the pressure has to be reduced in the high pressure fuel lines. To do so,
    follow the below steps:
    - open the fuse box located on the driver’s side of the dash, at the door hinge: price the fuse box
    cover with a flathead screwdriver;
    - fuse - 28 - from the Fuel Pump (FP) Control Module J538 must be removed before opening fuel
    system. Otherwise, the fuel pump will be activated by the drivers door contact switch;
    • By removing fuse - 28 - , the voltage supply to "terminal 30" for the Fuel Pump (FP) Control
    Module J538 is interrupted.
    CAUTION!
    • The fuel injection system is divided into a high pressure section (maximum approximately
    110 bar) and a low pressure system (approximately 6 bar).
    • Before opening high pressure parts, e.g. removing high pressure pump, fuel rail, fuel
    injectors, fuel pipes or Fuel Pressure Sensor G247, fuel pressure in high pressure area
    must be reduced to a residual pressure of approximately 6 bar. The procedure for this is
    as follows.
    - High fuel pressure, reducing:
    • Remove electrical connector - 2 - from Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve N276
    • Allow engine to idle approximately 10 seconds.
    • By removing the electrical connector from the Fuel Pressure Regulator Valve N276 in idle,
    the fuel pressure is reduced from approximately 50 bar to approximately 6 bar.
    • The decreasing fuel pressure can be decreased if a Vehicle Diagnosis and Service Syst. VAS
    5052 is connected and engine control module is selected. And select display group 140 under
    "Read measured value block" function.

    Do I have to do all of the above? or are those different ways I can reduce the pressure.

    I would assume the only thing I would have to do is pull the fuse for the HPFP and try and start the car?

    I am mostly confused by this:

    The decreasing fuel pressure can be decreased if a Vehicle Diagnosis and Service Syst. VAS
    5052 is connected and engine control module is selected. And select display group 140 under
    "Read measured value block" function.

    Thanks everyone!

    Sounds like you need a VAG scan tool to read the fuel pressure parameters in real time. Once it gets low enough, turn the engine off. Without it my assumption is you're just guessing how much pressure is left and it could potentially cause damage from running too long or not long enough resulting in you being blasted with fuel. I'm new to Audi but makes sense to me.

    My mechanic allowed me to help him replaced mine on my cabriolet A4 B7. for safety make sure engine is not hot. also put rag underneath you will see some fuel squirting. Rule of thumb just release the bolt slowly and wait for some of the pressure to go down you will be able to tell because the fuel will stop coming out, then continue to work. It took me and my mechanic less than 1 hour to get this task completed.
