APR RSC w/Deleted Downpipe Resonators & Snow Day Fun........

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I've received a bit of pm's from some of the guys requesting to hear this on vid. I was lucky enough to capture this, this weekend and have a little fun while doing it.

The is the full APR RSC exhaust, and I had the resonators in the downpipes removed, and replaced with straight pipes. It does not drone one bit at any RPM, as the center and rear resonators are untouched. I think that's pretty amazing in itself being a DSG. A slight amount of rasp was introduced because air is now traveling at a higher velocity through that section, but it still sounds amazing, and also the tone has gotten deeper.

I cringed a little when I had my shop cut the resonators off such an expensive system. I can say that I'm thoroughly pleased and should have done this a long time ago. Plus, I still have them so I can go back any time I'd like.

In my current phase of, "let me try new things" I also, picked up the AWE Track Exhaust with Non-Resonated Downpipes which I will be installing in the next couple weeks since it was a deal I couldn't pass up. Thanks Adam @ GMP! I'm in my mood of switching things up right now, so I'll see which one I decide to hang on to once I get it installed, and broken in a little.

In the meantime- Enjoy the vid and would like to hear your feedback.

Hard to believe you're not getting drone with that set up. Drone is relative though... someone else may hop in your car and think it drones a lot...
Sounded pretty nice... I prefer the AWE exhaust note... smoother sounding.
Thanks for sharing! Looks sloppy there!

That would be a bit too loud/raspy for me, but that must blow your hair back if you also bought AWE track exhaust!

I actually just chimed in to provide you with this "PSA" if you are now spending a lot of time hooning in snow-covered parking lots. Donuts Repair Bills

I'm been wanting to do this mod to my APR downpipes. If you end up keeping the AWE, I'll buy the modified downpipes

The 2013+ A4/S4 have electric power steering, so there is no power steering fluid and therefore no pump.

The OP of this post has a 2010 and therefore does have a power steering pump.

Yes relative indeed. I'm not a proponent of drone at all is why I chose this system, and to my surprise after this mod it didn't change. I'm very happy about that. We'll see how the AWE compared, but I hear that with the setup I chose there's a chance of drone. Ugh!

Ive had an AWE non-res track for about 20,000 KM (DSG) I love the way it sounds but its not for people with sensitive ears as it drones like a bitch (1700-3500 rpm under load) lol.

EDIT:One more thing you will have to raise your voice to talk to people while cruising at legal highway speeds. 130kmph/80mph = drone city and is unbearable for long distance trips

I've got my buddy's GoPro now, so I'll see if I can get that before I swap it out.

That's helpful info, thanks I'll keep that in mind as well. If I really don't like it, I can switch to the Touring exhaust by swapping out the rear section for resonated cans. That should help with the drone, but since I had the option I wanted to try this out in person first. Thanks for headsup.

Careful on those driving in winter conditions (like in your vid)... lots of wrecked S4's this year already with people running AS or summers in winter conditions...

Drove my car again today (been a week) and it doesn't quite "drone like a bitch" but its pretty much always there. Around 80MPH in 7th is still really bad. I'll be waiting for your comparison AWE Track non-res VS APR non-res :)

I think you'll like the AWE track setup more... Your current setup is loud for sure but it doesn't produce a pleasing tone like the AWE does.. Bit raspy imo but applaud you for messing with the APR system. Never really liked that system as it came from apr.. Plus you have some nice goodies waiting when this gets old. Win win

RE: AWE track and drone. I hope you don't do a lot of highway driving... You will hate that setup if so! I don't drive any faster than 65mph to the drag strip for it to be bearable... At 70, it's just too much for me to handle. Then again my car only sees the strip now so I don't mind it (I drove with the stock exhaust for 4+ years, and after hearing APR's race car knew I wanted to go bonkers with it when I swapped it out)... No complaints other than that. It's pretty tame putting around town and absolutely glorious on throttle/WOT

Or you could keep the track and add resonated downpipes. Reduces the drone under your seat and leaves the rear of your system open.

That's also a good option. I saw vids with AWE Non-Res DP's and Touring Exhaust and I like the tone and volume of those as well. Figured I'd start crazy and work backwards if I don't like it truly. I think I will tho. :)

Here's an update of having this exhaust for a few months now.

So having almost all the different variations between these two exhaust systems, I have to say that I think I have the perfect setup with the AWE Non-Res DP, and the Touring Exhaust.

With that said, the APR full exhaust that I started with was amazing, then over time it was just too tame for my taste. I wanted something a little deeper with a little more volume.

I played around with the x-pipe replacing the center piece idea, and then because of cost I went with the resonator removal in the DP's. This was great in terms of throatiness and volume. It came with the price of a little raspiness however, and was just slightly more raw than what I expected.

Then I got a fantastic deal for the Non Res DP's and the Track exhaust. I figured I could just switch out the rear section if it was too much. After installing it, it was amazing. Super loud and one of the deepest I've heard thusfar. However, it came with an intolerable drone. Like bad enough that I couldn't stand it and my girlfriend refused to ride in my car until I swapped it out. It's definitely made for the Track only.

Swapped out the rear muffler section for the Touring, and it's been the most perfect combination I've ever had. This is how it should have came to begin with from Audi. Perfect deep tone, perfect volume, and I can have a normal conversation again. Drone-less. Just a well built system all around.

My recommendation is the AWE Non-Res DP's and the Touring Catback.
