extended warranty and major issues with 2012 Q7 sport

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi I just purchased a 2012 Q7 sport with 122 000 km. I pick it up this Friday but have the option to add an aftermarket warranty. Cost would be $3500 and cover everything but wear and tear and electical for 3 years/60 000km. If you don't make a claim in the first 3 years you have the option of rolling over another 3 years at an extra $150. Do you guys think it's worth it? What are the major issues known to the 2012 Q7 with the V6T engine?
    Any input would be appreciated.
I would also appreciate thoughts on whether the Q7 needs snow tires for here in Toronto.
    Thanks

Lol, trust me, youre GOING to make a claim in 3 years. Granted, paying out of pocket up until then so you dont have to claim would be nice to roll it over during the more "at risk" years in the cars life.

Who is the warranty administered by.

at 75k miles you want a warranty. it's on the front end where you generally do not utilize warranty on a large repairs. on the back end is where you will experience costly repairs.
repairs from failures or defects will be cover but maintenance and wear and tear will not.
look into your warranty companies and see which one has a more extensive program.

Yes I'd expect that the truck would need repairs over the next 3/6 years but the question is whether paying $3500 up front is worth the investment or should I just pay as you go. The warranty is with Lubrico.
If anyone can chime in on the reliability of the 2012 3.0T Q7 I'd truly appreciate it.

I have that year, model and all. My 2012 only has 57700km on it. I had a electrical cable short that resulted in my car not able to move out of park. Some other little things. For the Q7 my largest worry is electrical and some components that get wear because of the weight. I'm in Nova Scotia and all I can say is get winter tires! We live in Canada, you'll thank yourself on that snowy day with those winters.

it isn't an investment it is a purchase and i would say yes. if you plan to keep the vehicle longer than a year. the money you laid out up front will easily offset any major repair this vehicle needs.

I would get the warranty. I am on my third steering rack and second battery. All out of warranty.

Is the steering rack a common problem? I wouldn"t think any warranty covers the battery.

No idea. But the steering rack had to be replaced at 90,000km and then again at 112,000km. The battery was replaced last year and is already having difficulty starting in cold weather after Hamilton Audi let it die while it was in for service.

You will almost certainly encounter electrical problems.

Aftermarket warranties are horrible. And that's the best thing I can say about them. They're pure profit for the underwriter, administrator, and dealership...and pure snake oil and headaches for you. I just did a google search on, "lubrico warranty claim problems," and I'd recommend that or a similar query. If there's not an Audi warranty available, I'd set aside the $3,500 and self-insure.

Thanks for your input. Yes I think I'll be passing on the extended warranty.
