    Any Known Problems 06-09 S8

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I owned a B6 S4 a few years back, and before I bought I failed to research the known problems with the car, and I had a few expensive surprises with it. I'm thinking of getting back into the Audi scene again with a S8 between 06-09, and I'm wondering if there any known issues with the car between those years. I appreciate the help in advance.

The D3 is one of Audi's more reliable platforms. Some of the problem areas are
the air suspension(struts and compressor) no different than any other brand. I am still on my original suspension in my 2007 S8. Arnott makes cheap and reliable rebuilds
The power trunk motor or switch can be problematic. I just replaced the switch in the trunk on mine
soft closing door mechanism if equipped. Not really an issue you can still open and close as normal. I personally never close the door so gentle to use it.
Navigation power screen and tweeters if equipped with B&O. My speakers rise out of the dash no problem and it's a rare issue
Be sure to test every single button in the car.
The V10FSI is one of the best for carbon build up. One of the least likely to deal with it, not to say you won't. I am at 112k km and still no cel. The 3.2FSI in my old A4 avant was a nightmare for carbon. I had that cleaned at 80k km. it was so bad

I love my S8. Coming from a CTS-V and I'll never look back, I've owned a few Audis and many VW before. The fact I have only spent $2500 in the last year says something. $1200 of that was front pads and rotors, they are 15.2" after all LOL

    Differences in years are small.
    2006-07 is pre facelift
pre facelift has less sound deadening, signals on fender instead of inside the mirror, don't have lane departure option, pre facelift has the cool fold up mirrors, and different fogs and lower grill treatment

Thanks for all the help. Yeah, my S4 cam adjusters went out, which was an extremely costly fix, so I want to avoid that if possible.

When you say pre facelift does that mean 08 and 09 are different? I took a look and I guess I don't see a difference. Maybe I'm missing something.

    A little different

    Here is an 07

multi spoke wheels(mine are aftermarket MRR wheels), round fog lights, turn signals in fender by the door and fold up mirrors like in my car above, different tails though both are LED

    post face lift 2008-09
Turn signals moved to mirrors, square fogs, different wheels, mirrors fold horizontal like the B6 and B7, more sound deadening(I want to hear my V10 LOL), and different tail lights

I really like both of them. These years are some of my favorite for this car! The body lines and the simple yet refined look. I hated the newer body style up until the 2016.

So no major engine problems like I had on my B6 S4? I just want to make sure I know what I'm getting myself into lol.

The engine and transmission are pretty bomb proof. I have heard of rear main leaks, though not common. And it's pretty tight under the hood. Not as bad as the W12 though LOL. And the V10 sound is to die for. Next mod for me is chopping out the resonators.

Bone stock, this is how she goes... in Mexico of course. Not the fastest 450hp out there. They are a heavy car. But it is so smooth

My stock exhaust. Excuse the filth lol

This is the exhaust I am wanting, if the wife lets me. Miltek non resonated
