What did you do to your Q/SQ5 today?

That was a hell of a job. If anyone says removing the cats isn’t too bad, that’s a half truth, it totally sucks!!! Anyway she’s back together and running well. Hopefully I did it right cause I’d like to avoid reliving that experience lol.


Almost cross threaded a cat stud during reassembly. Crisis averted when I came across a brilliant 1” socket sized m8x1.25 die and cleaned up all the studs.







Cat back on. I should’ve bought a quick jack for this job. Surprised I don’t have one already but I’m Keeping my eye on Costco for their next sale. Job was challenging enough due to limited space.




Downpipe and cross brace back on. Downpipes are a breeze compared to cats

Hell yeah! Glad that's over with! Removing the cats wasn't that bad tbh. LOL! I think what helped me was soaking the cats nuts with wd40 for hours and removing the xbrace and subframe heat shields (the ones on the sides). Hardest part was getting to 2 of the cats nuts.

Snagged a chinese CarPlay module off eBay. 15 min install, super clean, uses factory buttons and works well so far. Wired or wireless. Wife already asking for one for her q3

Just installed this yesterday. Friend hooked me up with the unit. Super cool audi load up screen, CarPlay, and google play store so I can use obdeleven and other useful apps.

Not normally a fan of pop up screens in cars but this is the perfect size for me and looks very OEM imo.

An air freshener melted my A/C buttons below so replacing that and recoding it tonight

Yeah definitely. Wouldn’t have installed if i couldn’t retain basic MMI controls.

Previous owner installed a unit where the touch screen broke AND the CarPlay didn’t work with MMI buttons, so all it was good for was Waze/Maps lol. Dealt with it for long enough until it started randomly going black and had to switch it out.

Test fitted my Moab-ready setup. LOL! These are replacing my dedicated winter tires and should allow me to drive on dirt roads without ruining my summer tires. I normally drive the NB Miata with Michelin X-Ice tires in the snow anyways.

In Australia, the only RS4 we get is the Avant.

I am super looking forward to it.

It will be sad to see the SQ5 go after having it for 10 years, but I’m sure I’ll get over it !

Did some detailing. Stripped, nano sponged, waxed, polymer sealed (PowerLock Plus+), and glazed my Q5 today. Happy with the results, but a lot of work. Can't get pics to load for some reason. My S5 gets the same treatment tomorrow.

Pulled uhaul to college move-in day. Ruined a Continental Extreme Contact and popped the passenger-side cat. Good times…

Ordered a set of CAP Heat-shielded test pipes. Hoping those paired with the Magnaflow and the two Vibrant Ultra-quiet resonators that are already on there will kill any rasp created by the test pipes. Wish me luck or give me advice! I would appreciate either or both!

Pressure bleeder is so nice.

Ditto. just serviced rear rotors, pads and swapped to stop tech steel braided lines all-around on my mother’s q5 2.0t. Took me multiple bleeds and a lot of typ200 fluid but finally got the pedal back to firm.

I had the same issue when swapping out brake lines and front calipers on both the S5 and SQ5. The neverneding stream of bubbles.

Forgot to reply. That's a terrible way to spend a Friday. Did you hit a pothole? I see the hole where something went into the tire but the sidewall is throwing me off.

As for the cats, my only advise is to soak the nuts on WD40 for at least a few hours before attempting to remove them. Overnight is even better. You do not want to break a header stud. OEM cats can come out from the bottom of the car without cutting them. Are you installing cats at all? The smell without cats is quite strong. I have JHM high flow cats and that's about as much exhaust smell I would ever want.

So 2016 3.0T Q5 P+ … 48k miles.
Had the drivers side ricking, most noticeable with window down in enclosed spaces. Probably has been more noticeable over the last 5k miles. Thought about trading it in, because it’s cherry, but I just love everything about the car.
I have a great Euro-Mechanic whom I trust both Audis to. He narrowed down the engine rattle to the rear drivers side of the motor. Yea, it’s a timing thing.
Big job, not for the garage or driveway. He dropped the motor. So covers removed, and problem found. Quarter inch gap between chain and guide. LOL, WTF!! Tensioners were solid, guides not damaged. Chain stretched!? How crazy is that?
All in, all three chains, tensioners , & guides replaced. Mechanic is just finishing up, and holding on to the car a few more days, to make sure any issues from removing the engine are worked out.
I have a vid of the internal pre-fix, gotta figure out how to post it.

Current raspy exhaust setup:

CAP shielded test pipes into factory (non-resonated down pipes, into Flowmaster 11385 before moving on back to exit through Vibrant 1141 Ultra quite resonators in the factory muffler location. Pic attached.

Thought about adding 2 small resonators in the downpipe down pipe location and replacing the likely, blown-out Flowmaster with something similar in size from Borla.

Thoughts?
